Dan Ginsburg from Valve said there is no reason to use DX12 because there is Vulkan and the true story is Dota2 works best on DX9.

Really I want to play Dota2 on Linux but it does not work as good as on DX9. Using Vulkan to run Dota2 on Linux did not stop to stutter and this time it is not any silly bug. This time it looks like problems while loading the amount of data without hiccups. You can use OpenGL on Linux but it is not as smooth as DX9.

So what I have done? I build the fastest rig that is possible and installed Windows 10 and I hate Windows!

Well lets see if Lord Gaben is able to reach the future of gaming in his own lifetime?!

It is hard to find actual information on this topic:

07 Jul 2016 – dx11 has been made the default launch option for Dota 2 on 64-bit systems. (DirectX 11 default have been reverted. Therefore, you must add the – dx11 command to run with Directx 11.)

Every source I found is DirectX 9 – Default for Dota 2 client

The – console did not display any information about that anymore.

Yeah I mean we had DX9 on Windows 98. I am sure nobody is proud on using grannies api to make stuff happening. 😉

Which is better? Which has best performance?

dx 11 works,(shaders enabled)dx9 is broken(T75. it should be T78 Flip.),vulkan is buggy on mac, open gl is flipping useless.

And why is DX9 enabled by default even on Windows 10 .. and what should T75 and T78 flip mean. Prove your insides on this topic!

If Vulkan is buggy on Apple systems then MoltenVK need some tweaks.

t78 is a complicated equation, think of it as an elastic band and how far it can stretch before it breaks, currently that line will stop at button 75,when infact its final point is 78.therefore with the dx11 update, dx9 is now lagging behind which equates to gamelag. its fine if everyone is using one or the other but not both at the same time. this will not be fixed until jan 2019,they should have dropped xp machines from the code. take the lowest xp machine and sync it with the highest dx11 machine, when connected to dotas servers the difference is 32 fps. the server throttles the dx11 machine to allow the xp machine to catch up, so when your in team fights the drop off can be as bad as 32fps.

I did not found any information on this elastic band calculation you are writing about but well I tested Dota2 Vulkan on Windows 10 with GTX 1080 TI OC and it also works very well.

why would you use vulkan on a direct x 12 gpu. when there is dx11 support. vulkan is an amd offspring.

XP doesn’t have DX10 or 11 access.

i never said it did. i said dx9 machines need an update if there going to be playing alongside dx 11 machines after the lastest update. dx 11 machines can be 32fps ahead of xp users at all times, dota uses 30 tick servers. you do the maths. with compute shaders enabled dx 11 has a 70ms advantage over dx9,i can press 3 buttons in 70ms.

I created some videos with overlay statistics from MSI Afterburner and my Vulkan observations on Linux with Polaris hardware is pretty assignable to what I can see on Windows 10 with NVidia hardware.

The default Api on Windows 10 is still D3D9E.

On Vulkan Dota 2 is able to create smoother movements when changes are minor but even with Vulkan 1.1 on GTX 1080 TI OC Dota2 will get problems to read the amount of data in some situations which results in visual hiccups.

I will do some compositing and present my Video results later on this thread.

‘Dota 2’: Winter 2016 Battle Pass Continues Compendium Evolution Ahead Of Shanghai Major

Find out why those waiting for the Dota 2 Shanghai Major Compendium will want to check out the Winter 2016 Battle Pass and what else changed in the latest Dota 2 update. Photo: Valve

Just when many Dota 2 players were beginning to wonder if we’d ever see a Compendium released for the Shanghai Major, Valve has finally released the digital guidebook for the next stop on the road to this year’s International. And the all-new Winter 2016 Battle Pass might be the most ambitious promotion we’ve seen ahead of a Valve-sponsored Dota 2 tournament.

In addition to announcing the Winter 2016 Battle Pass on the Dota 2 blog, Valve also added a new sub-section to the game’s website – as it does for most Dota 2 events – with details on what players can expect from the Winter 2016 Battle Pass. And there might be more going on with the Winter 2016 Battle Pass than we’ve seen in any Dota 2 promotion thus far.

The quest system will return, with a few tweaks to make it more enticing for the community, and unique rewards based on the objectives you choose to complete. Token betting has also returned, with a much larger weekly allowance and the ability to tip allies or enemies who earned a token of your appreciation. There’s also a new achievement system, a seasonal winter terrain, new couriers and loads more.

Of course, the Dota 2 patch delivering the Winter 2016 Battle pass also includes its fair share of bug fixes and and other minor tweaks. Valve added a new Conduct Summary tab that lets players know how many abandons, commendations and reports they’ve racked up over the last 25 games. The Conduct Summary tab will also let you know how your stats stand up against the rest of the Dota 2 community.

Here are the complete patch notes for this week’s Dota 2 update, via Steam:

  • Added Conduct Summary popup, which tells you how many reports, abandons, and commends you have received in the past 25 games. http://www. dota2.com/conductsummaryfaq/

DoTA 2 Skins and Cosmetic Items Explained

What are Dota2 skins and how do they improve your gaming experience? Where can you find great Dota2 skins? How much do they cost?

As a regular Dota 2 player, you’re probably up to date with what skins are, what they are used for, and what they can do during the game. But if you are just getting started with Dota 2, or you simply want to find out more about Dota 2 skins, then this article is definitely for you.

Items versus Skins

Just like Counter Strike, Team Fortress, or Warframe, you can also purchase items and skins for Dota 2.

There are 2 types of items: cosmetic items and power boosting items. Skins are part of the first category, as they have a purely visually enhancing role; skins do not affect the abilities and powers of Heroes.

Did you know? Contributions to Dota 2’s development consistently come from sources outside the main development team.

What are power boosting items? They give Heroes enhanced abilities and functions so they can perform better during a battle. Power/Ability enhancing items are not tied to a particular Hero, therefore you must pay increased attention when choosing your items. Some items won’t work on some Heroes, while other items can be combined for improved results. In short, these items provide additional benefits to Heroes that the leveling up process cannot.

Tip: A Hero can have a maximum of 6 items in his Inventory, and a maximum of 6 items in his Stash. If you get more items, they will be automatically dropped in the fountain.

Dota 2 Skins You Can’t Miss

There are a lot of skins to choose from in Dota 2. This is part of the game’s charm, and a lot of players go above and beyond to personalize their Dota 2 experience. Skins don’t interfere with the mechanics of the game, they are purely decorative.

Did you know? You can buy user-created skins in the Steam Workshop. They are only put out for sale if they have been approved by Valve.

1. Equipment Skins

This skins type is used to change the way a Hero looks, from their clothes to the way their weapons are designed. While these skins do not alter the Heroes’ powers, they can definitely give your hero a fiercer look.

You can choose from:

Cosmetic Items by Hero. Click on the image to enlarge.

2. Couriers

As the name suggests, the Couriers are items that take the form of a donkey / flying donkey. Their main responsibility is to carry your items to and from your base. Animal Couriers and Flying Couriers are considered Consumable Items.

You can also customize your courier in the loadout screen. You can equip the Couriers with specific visual elements. Once again, these elements do not influence the way the Courier performs. However, there are some Unusual Couriers which come with a special effect. The effect can be either Ethereal Gem or Prismatic Gem.

Custom Couriers are classified in 5 categories: Rare, Mythical, Legendary, Immortal, Ancient.

3. Announcers

This collection of cosmetic items is a bit different, because it does not change the way a Hero or a player looks. What it does is it changes the voice of the Announcer with explosive commentaries, unruly humor, or a drunken Pirate Captain. There are a lot of Announcers items to choose from – can you decide which voice is your favourite?

4. Custom Wards

Are you getting bored with the way your wards look? With Custom Wards you can change the appearance of your Observer Wards and Sentry Wards.

Did you know? Items such as skins are the main source of income for Dota2. Creators selling their items on the Steam Market receive a percentage of sales. In 2013 the income for an average contributor was $15k per year.

5. HUD Skins

This skins category is a bit special, as it allows you to change how the heads up display looks. What’s even better about this skins category is that it can be equipped by other players in the same match.

There are more DoTA 2 skins that invite you to fully personalise your gaming experience:

  • Music
  • Emoticons
  • Mouse cursors
  • Weather effects
  • Blink effects
  • Teleport effects
  • Custom base items
  • Taunta
  • Multikill banners
  • Loading screens

Skin Categories: Rarity & Quality

Items and skins in Dota2 are usually categorized into Rarity. The rarer the item, the more valuable it is. Some players spend a lot of money on their items; there are even Dota 2 skins that cost a big-ticket. Depending on their rarity, items are classified as:

Did you know? Initially, DoTA was used as an acronym from Defense of The Ancients. Multiple versions of the same game were produced, but Dota Allstars was the most popular Dota version. Dota Allstars was the game that inspired the development of Dota 2.

When discussing the Quality of an item or a Dota2 skin, there are 4 categories it can fall into. Normal items are the most widespread, while genuine items are… well, highest in QUALITY. The 4 Quality types are:

Quality can be altered by Gems.

Did you know? DoTA emerged in 2003, and Dota 2 was officially released in 2013. The creator of the most popular version of DoTA retired in 2005, only 2 years after the game’s launch. By 2008, DoTA was already one of the most prominent electronic sports titles.

What is the Steam Market?

A concept for DoTA2 Skins. You can find more skins on the Steam Market.

As mentioned before, you can buy and sell skins and items forDota 2 in the Steam Market. The Steam Market also commercializes items for Counter Strike, Primal Carnage, Warframe, Team Fortress, The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, Robot Roller, and more. The Dota2 skins you purchase from Store. SteamPowered. com cannot be re-sold earlier than 1 week from the moment of the purchase.

When you make your first purchase in the market you will pay real money. After that, as you earn more money, you will be allowed to use it to purchase other items or skins. You cannot withdraw your money to your card or use it in any way other than buying and selling on the Steam Market.

This is one great drawback of the Steam Market system, because the money you earn stays on the website, whether you are an Items Creator or an Items Buyer.

What are your solutions for solving this problem on Steam Market? Do you think that a new payment system that allows withdrawals to PayPal (for example) would be a good idea? Why / why not?

Just leave your comments below and let’s see how we can change it together!

The Dota Majors

After a whirlwind week of intense matches, The Shanghai Major Qualifiers have concluded with two teams advancing from each region. Now that these eight qualifying teams have joined the direct invites, the tournament field of sixteen teams has been set, and The Shanghai Major Group Stage will commence on February 25, followed by the Main Event at Mercedes-Benz Arena from March 2 – 6.

Upon the crowning of The Shanghai Major Champions, the eyes of the Dota community will turn to the next Major, to be held in Manila, Philippines in early June. As before, established teams and upstarts alike will battle for the chance to join the rolls of The Manila Major to compete on the main stage in front of a sea of passionate fans.

This will be the final opportunity to prove they belong amongst the best in the world before The International 2016 kicks off beneath the mid-August Seattle sun.

Tickets for The Shanghai Major

Kicking off the 2016 Major season, The Shanghai Major main event will run from March 2nd to March 6th, with tickets available for sale starting January 10th at 12:00 PM SGT. If you are interested in attending, find all of the information you need here.

Additionally, The Shanghai Major Qualifiers are currently underway to fill out the remainder of the tournament field. Already eight stalwart Open Qualifier teams have advanced from a pool of over 2000 Dota squads to join the ranks of the Regional Qualifiers. The top two teams of each Regional Qualifier will earn the chance to compete with the eight invited teams at The Shanghai Major for their share of the $3M prize pool.

The Shanghai Major Teams

The Shanghai Major, the first Major tournament of 2016, will feature sixteen of the best teams in the world competing over five days in a double elimination tournament.

As with The Frankfurt Major, eight teams will be directly invited, and eight teams will come from the Regional Qualifiers. Each of the four Regional Qualifiers will feature ten teams, eight preselected plus the two winners of each region’s Open Qualifiers that will occur between January 3rd and the 6th. Experience

Experience (also known as exp or xp) is given to a hero when an enemy dies nearby. All opposing heroes within range gain experience, which is divided equally among them. When heroes gain enough experience they level up, increasing their attributes and allowing them to improve their skills.

Contents

Experience [ edit ]

  • Experience range is 1500. All opposing heroes in that area gain experience from the kill. The experience is div >Leveling [ edit ]

A hero levels up by acquiring experience points from enemies (including Creeps and summoned units) that die nearby. Experience is very important as it grants levels to the hero which in turn are used to acquire powerful spells, abilities and talents, and increase the hero’s stats. The maximum level is 25.

Denies [ edit ]

Whenever a hero kills an ally it counts as a deny. When a deny is performed an exclamation mark appears over the denied unit. A denied unit gives reduced experience and no gold to the enemy.

Lane Creeps [ edit ]

Heroes can only target allied creeps if they are at 50% health or lower. A denied creep gives 40% of its experience bounty to the enemy. The denier is also given 20% of its gold bounty.

Neutral Creeps [ edit ]

Being killed by Neutral Creeps is equivalent to being killed by enemy units and gives full experience.

Summons [ edit ]

Denied summons grant no experience or gold. Summons that die by timing out or due to summoning new ones also do not grant experience or gold.

Heroes [ edit ]

Denied heroes grant no experience or gold.

Heroes can only be denied if they are at 25% health or lower and under the effect of one of the following skills:

Additionally some skills and items allow heroes to damage themselves or allies. Dying in this way is also considered a deny.

Experience Formula [ edit ]

The experience bounty from a hero kill depends on the killed hero’s total experience and is split equally among the heroes involved in the kill.

  • HeroXP = Total XP of the killed hero
  • N = Number of heroes involved in the kill

Experience bounty = 40 + 0.14 × HeroXP / N

Additionally, Killing Sprees give additional XP from 400 to 1800.

Hero Experience Table [ edit ]

The table below shows experience required for heroes to be at a certain level, as well as experience gained from killing heroes and units.

Explanation of each of the columns:

  • Level: The level of the hero.
  • Experience Required: The amount of experience that a hero at the prior level with 0 experience must accumulate to achieve this level.
  • Cumulative Experience: The minimum total experience a hero must accumulate during a game to be at the indicated level.
  • Hero Kill Experience: The base amount of experience given by killing a hero, it is split among all allied heroes of the killing unit within 1300 range. This value does not include the bonus experience that hero kills also give.
  • Unit Kill Experience: The base amount of experience given by killing a unit, it is split among all allied heroes of the killing unit within 1300 range. This value is 50% less if the killed unit counts as a summoned unit.

XP Gain Talent Effectiveness [ edit ]

Some Heroes have Level 10 or Level 15 Talents that increase the amount of experience gained. The following tables show how much less experience is required to get to a certain level by taking that talent.

Axe Lane/Jungle Build

1. When to use this build:
2. What if I’m solo?
3. Early Game
4. Midgame
5. Lategame
6. Extra Fun Tidbits

When to use this build:

This build is optimal only for when you’re laning together with someone you can trust (a friend) who gives you the farm and plays a good harassing support/ganker such as lich, veno, wr, ds, etc.

What if I’m solo?

If you’re playing alone and don’t trust the random people you’re playing with you can jungle with this build easily, just use the jungle starting items and level up Counter Helix as your first skill but then continue on as noted.

You still want battle hunger maxed as soon as possible even though you’re jungling, and leveling counter helix past one only gives miniscule damage increase and proc cooldown lowering so it’s not all that useful, especially since battle hunger is incredibly powerful early game and wanes off later.

Early Game

Your starting items for laning should be stout shield, one set of tangos, one salve, and soul ring recipe so you don’t need to use courier to finish it. If you lane with lich you often won’t even need the tangos though it’s safe to nab it anyhow.

Hard/Long lane is recommended for this as you are not the carry and you want to shut down the enemy carry.

Your soul ring should come in at around 3 minutes, you should get level 2 battle hunger quite soon after and then it’s time to spam it like crazy. Keep your lane partner harassing and denying like mad while you continue to hunger. If your enemies are melee the lane is won as soon as you get soul ring, they will not be able to stay in lane. If your enemies are ranged then heroes like Lich are your best bet for ranged harass, spammable nuke/slow and the ability to deny from any hp so the enemy can’t get hunger off. The combo of Battle Hunger, Lich Nuke, and Berserker’s Call is enough to kill anyone by itself though if they manage to escape they have to suicide to neutrals, use a salve, or die to hunger ticks.

Tranquils should come in around 5-7 minutes with Vanguard at 10-13, this is when you start ganking if you haven’t already. Not expensive ganks like opposite sidelane ganks but little stuff like jungle and mid ganks using the immense early game power Axe posesses. Your goal is to make your lane, the enemy jungle and mid a living nightmare for the enemy. Axe snowballs pretty well early game so if you get even a few kills around 5-10 minutes you will extend your reign of terror even further.

Tranquils are my boot of choice as they’re cheap, provide armor, lots of ms, extra heal and an active heal that helps you stay ganking forever and lets you spin inside quintuple stacked hard camps for gold.

If you somehow manage to not get early game kills with this build, you still shut down the lane so whoever was there got 0 farm.

Midgame

Once you have vanguard, tranquils and soul ring you are an annoyance. Topping that with a blink dagger turns you from annoying into death itself. Once the dagger is up you can do some severe solo ganks, and if you have someone with you or you’re ganking a lane you will definitely get the kill.

TP scrolls are good as you can TP into a fight and wipe everyone due to be so tanky and having lvl 4 Battle Hunger to spam on everyone along with Berserk to make you toss some spins into people while your team lays into them. You will most likely win the fight, but if somehow you do not, battle hunger picks off all the retreating enemy heroes and you get fatter.

Blademail is situational, m >

Lategame

In lategame you’re starting to taper off, the game should have ended earlier and if you didn’t manage to completely shut down their carry midgame you’re in trouble so it’s time to start building items that can help your team as a whole. Blademail can work to counter a right click carry, Cuirass allows you to survive longer for multiple berserks while adding pushing power to your team, Heart will increase your hp pool in the case of a midgame blademail so you can dish out more damage through it.

Boots of travel can be useful as the added ms allows for easier chasing and frees up a slot that is always taken by tp scrolls.

Eul’s scepter will let you chase better due to the ms boost combined with its disable that can be directly chained with berserker’s call. It also lets you regen mana at a pace that will no longer require you to be careful with ability spamming.

Bloodstone is recommended if you’re absolutely destroying the enemy team and you can get it by 30 minutes after getting your core items. The idea of the bloodstone is to never run out of mana on Axe as well as tank him up a bit. Combine the bloodstone with an Aghanim’s scepter and you’ll have some laughs, it will be very rare you get the situation where this is a workable idea. Rampage dota 2 axe jungle

Shivas is a good item if you skipped Blademail due to them not having very much uncontrollable damage, you get large amounts of armor to tank more, some good intelligence for spells as well as its great active and passive.

Pipe is a great pickup if the enemy has a Zeus or other magical damage dealers than can control their targeting. I don’t recommend it against a Leshrac as Blademail would be a better >

Extra Fun Tidbits

There’s a few interesting things to remember when playing axe:
– All of Axe’s spells do damage through magic immunity, though Battle Hunger may not be casted on a magic immune target. This means you can culling blade a low hp bkb’s hero or berserk him so he can’t run away.
– Culling Blade removes all positive buffs on a target before killing it. This means you can use culling blade on a target under the effects of shallow grave and it will still kill him.
– The command dota_health_per_vetical_marker can be used to give you a visual indication over each enemy hero of whether or not you can ult them for a kill. Set it to 300 for lvl 1 ult, 450 for lvl 2 and 625 for lvl 3 and you’ll always ult at the perfect time.
– Jungling Axe will lead to less gold than laning with a harassing, supporting friend but more experience in many cases unless you absolutely dominate. It is also much safer farm in the case you aren’t laning with a friend and will usually lead to more gold in such a case.

“Thanks” to the Dota 2 team for creating the worst game from the best game. “Thank you” for the new matchmaking, “thanks” for the new reporting system. “Thanks” for all.

Until 2014, it was a really great game. I had 4,100 solo and 4,400 group MMRs, and everything was fine. I always played with people of my skill. All games were on an equal footing. It was good.

BUT then these . (Dota team) decided to break the balance, break the matchmaking . Break the game. And they got it. Yeah, they just got it. Nice work!

Since some time, I began to throw in the matchmaking with feeders, or beginners (who have 10 hours in the game), or low-level ones (less than 2000 mmr), or all taken together. It got to the point that I had to play in a team of 4 feeders. Or triple mider. Or 5 carry. Or something like that. BUT players of MY level still played against me. And they didn’t have these . (bad people).
And the problem is that they mainly play in a group. And if you don’t win the game / just don’t like it / just get in the wrong place at the wrong time – you will immediately receive 2+ reports from them. And because they report you not alone (but with friends), so they will receive a new reports. And you’ll go play in LP, where in absolutely any game you will receive at least 1 report.

At some point in time (in 2014-2015) I took a break. I thought maybe they recognize errors and roll back the changes. Upon my return, the exact same games were waiting for me. Most of them were impossible to win. Only feeders, only newbies (like tidehunter with stoun shield with passive). Or another **its. And again I took a break.

I read about new system. About changes. And come back.
But, on my return, I ended up in the same place. Only already without rating. I started looking for a rating only after several dozen games in public. And triple mids were waiting for me again. Feeders. Afk. Triple junglers. Tiny+am couple, who throw you to the hill. And other not smart people.
And I got a ban for 2 days, which was supposed to be removed today. But turned into permament. I got it for the same way. Because tiny+am playing together. So even you have reports – you just lost them. Because only you will report him and this report will not count. But they plays couple. So their reports will be counted.

“Thanks” to the Dota team for the trash instead of the game. No wonder all say that people do everything for themselves.

So you threw games cause they were either a newbie (A common thing to see yet instead of understanding their a noob, you threw the game) or a feeder (Were instead of just reporting, you turned toxic and did the same thing as them) and now your calling the game bad because you yourself is going toxic?

Eat the ban hammer, @ssh@t

But full of holes. You say that at least one in lp will report you, but the problem is – you cannot report anyone in lp.

If rest of your info has same level of reliability I see no point in even review it.

Poseidon, God of the Sea

Please review our General Rules & Guidelines before posting or commenting anywhere on DOTAFire.

Poseidon, God of the Sea

Some say that when the God of the Ocean awakens, even Maelrawn herself retreats into the tides, lest she anger the only being capable of tearing her apart in moments, yet this is only true if one believes in the gods and in Maelrawn in the first place. If one is clear-headed enough to believe in the deities, they might achieve a favour from them if they continue their devotion and worship for a long an hard enough period. These favours could be gifts of power, of safe crossing over the ocean, or even bringing back a loved one from the underworld for a few fleeting moments. The gods were honour-bound to fulfil these promises if the conditions are met, for better or for worse.

It so happens that one man known only as Kunkka had worshipped him in secret for long enough to be granted one single wish. This admiral chose to not make the wish right away, as he would possibly need it later on. He was soon glad that he made this decision.

Three days later, the Claddish fleet was attacked by the forces of Maelrawn, and the half-god, half-monster herself. Masts snapped, sails tore, boats sank, until only the flagship remained, with two combatants duelling on the top deck. Kunkka and his arch rival, Leviathan the Tidehunter. Sword met anchor in a vicious display of skill vs strength, until the acolyte called Maelrawn’s attention to the battle.

Not much is known about what happened next, other than Pose />

Skills

Q: Sea worm parasite (target allied/enemy/neutral creep)

Poseidon calls upon a hated creature of the deep to take over the
body of a non-ancient creep, granting it extra attack speed, armour and HP. If the
infected creep lands 5 attacks, the 6th hit will add the parasite debuff to
whatever the hit landed on, with different effects depending on whether it
was applied to a creep or a hero. If it was a creep that was hit, the unit
falls under Poseidon’s control, minus the attack speed buff and the bonus
hp. If an enemy hero was hit, it slows them for a duration.

Max infected units: 5/7/9/11
Bonus armour: 3/5/7/9
Bonus HP: 150
Attack speed bonus: 60
Cooldown: until the original target dies
Mana cost: 180
“Your mind will succumb to my creations.”

W: Oceanic guide (click ground, semi-global, passive)

Using his literal connection with the little water there is,
Poseidon may teleport himself to any part of the river after a 1.8
second delay. Passively (when standing in the river), Poseidon has
his base movespeed set to 410

Cooldown: 50/40/30/20
Mana cost: 170/160/150/140
“Easy runes for me, then.”

E: Divine whirlpool (click ground, AoE)

Poseidon summons a rapidly twisting torrent of water
which covers the ground in an AoE for a duration. Whilst
inside the whirlpool, allies are healed a small amount per
second, whilst enemies are damaged for the same amount and
slowed.

AoE: 300
Heal/Damage: 30
Duration: 5/6/7/8
Slow: 35%
Cooldown: 16/15/14/13
Mana cost: 150
“The tidehunter thought he could gush? He hasn’t seen anything yet.”

R: High/low tide (Target unit/Active)
