Recently I’ve had problems loading my dota2, I then called steam support and they told me to use the steam beta client. I did and then my dota2 loaded, but it had an error message on top saying “Lost connection to steam”. I’ve restarted my computer and steam, made sure this problem is dota2 specific, even re-downloaded dota2, but nothing works. Please help!

Same issue here, I tried steam beta update because steam repeatedly prompted “Steam client out of date” when starting the dota 2 client. That made it possible to start, but not connect to steam. I tried reinstalling steam and Dota 2 but nothing seems to help. I can play on a ubuntu pc on the same network but not on my macbook.

As a quick fix go to Dota 2 in your library, right click, select properties and go to launch options and type ‘-clientport 27015’ then restart your steam and it should work fine.

Hello @thomaschan9328 to workaround the recent regression, opt out of Steam’s beta client, allow it to update the steam client, then quit and relaunch the steam client.

Per “This release fixes an issue starting certain games that began after the July 10th Steam Beta release. To apply the fix you will need to reboot your computer after installing this Steam Beta update.” in the 2018-07-11 Steam client beta update, please retest this issue.

If the above does not resolve the issue, double check that any launch option workarounds have been removed and verify the game’s files.

Constantly playing each other in Grand Finals or Winner’s brackets of tournaments, these two powerhouses clash often and their match-ups are always a spectacle to watch. With their sets often going the distance, be it 3 or 5 matches, their play against each other is, in all senses of the phrase, a back and forth slug-fest. Be it for a circuit tournament, or the title of “Best Team in the World” these teams always give it their all against each other.

You’d think after meeting each other so often in such high stakes scenarios, with literally over one million dollars on the line one time, there would be a bitter hatred and rivalry between these two teams, akin to a Hattsfield/McCoy or Yankees/Red Sox blood feud. Even their playstyles, with Na’Vi’s classic teamfight compositions vs. Alliance’s infamous “rat DOTA” split pushing tactics, the teams are polar opposites and their attitudes toward each other must be abrasive, right?

If you think that, you would be so very, very wrong. The comradeship from these two teams, and the DOTA 2 competitive scene in general, is quite different than what you would expect. Over a month has passed since the reveal of Snapfire and Void Spirit at The International 2019. The two new heroes will be joining Dota 2’s roster along with a large update known as The Outlanders. We know the update is coming soon, as it was given a Fall release window, but there is still no news of a solidified date.

A lot of signs point to November as the perfect time when the update will arrive, but there is a chance it will release before October ends. This is specifically based on the timing for the first Major and Minor of the 2019-20 Dota Pro Circuit and how likely Valve is to push the new content out before the real season begins.

The MDL Chengdu Major and Dota Summit 11 Minor both take place in November, with the Minor starting on Nov. 7.

If Valve were to release The Outlanders update around the same time as those events, players might be hesitant to try the new heroes if they were allowed to be used in the tournament. Mars is a good example of this—he was considered heavily broken on release and was thus banned from events until Valve finished reworks.

With how powerful Ember Spirit is in the current meta and the popularity of Storm Spirit, it would make a lot of sense for Void Spirit to be equally as powerful (sorry Earth Spirit). But that requires live testing and going over community feedback, which takes time.

That is why releasing the entire update in October would be perfect for both casual and competitive players.

All of the qualifying tournaments for the Major and Minor will be wrapped up by Oct. 10, leaving the best teams in the world to practice for those tournaments. So if Valve released the update within a week of those events ending, that would let the developer make balance changes based on the qualifiers while also leaving time to patch the update again before the Minor.

Valve is working a pretty tight window if it really wants to optimize both heroes without breaking the meta in the process. But if it is released sooner rather than later, there will be plenty of time for the top teams to practice and for the developer to work on quick fixes.

That would also be a great way to get players back into the game right as the competitive season starts, which could also bring in more viewership to the tournaments.

October is probably still a long shot since releasing it after or during the competitive events will give Valve the most time to prepare those heroes for the second set of qualifiers. It also lines up with the release dates for the previous three Spirit heroes, which have all been added in November.

Regardless of if The Outlanders update drops in October or November, it will bring a ton of new content, including those two new heroes to the Dota 2 client before December rolls around unless a last-minute delay is announced.

Update Oct. 31 9:20pm CT: The Outlanders Update will indeed come after the first Major of the Dota 2 season. This was expected, but it does partially change the Fall update into a Winter update because that will push it into the later parts of November.

It’s not a bad item honestly. Combined with a Desolator it can be very powerful. I think in most cases a Linken’s is the best option but against the line up that you were against it wasn’t that great.

It’s situational. Skadi gives great stats and a nice attack speed and movement slow. It also makes you very tanky. But weaver’s ability to escape and kite makes the slow from skadi less relevant in a 1v1. Deso is a great item on weaver because it drastically increases his single target damage which allows him to quickly pick off supports in team fights. Skadi gives him that tankiness but isn’t as efficient damage-wise as a deso. That being said, the change in weavers passive to be affected by unique attack modifiers makes thew skadi pick up justifiable when stacked with lifesteal, which cannot be done with the deso. That damage loss from not having the deso can be recovered with a deadalus, making you a very hard to lock down and even harder to kill carry capable of insane single target dps.

To top them all, the funny name inspired on the cartoon Bambi makes Enchantress even more connected to the gay things about DotA. Now the paradox: how can a hero be that gay and harm so bad based on the distance it keeps from you when throwing spears?

In one of the last, he seems to be even more dangerous than all the Elder Dragon forms of Knight Davion and Jakiro. The Conduct Summary, viewable in-game, will provide a history of the behaviors associated with Low Priority over a span of the previous 25 games that an account has played.

How can a Low Priority penalty be removed?

As mentioned above, the only way to remove the Low Priority penalty is to win the required number of games in Single Draft mode. Steam Support may be able to help you address the underlying cause of the behavior that led to the penalty; ie, crashing issues. However, Steam Support does not modify or remove these penalties under any circumstance.

What types of behaviors can result in a Low Priority penalty?

Abandoning a matchmaking game that is not marked as ‘safe to leave’.
Being in a Ranked party when one of the party members is assigned an abandon.
Being reported by other users for negative in-game behavior.
Abusing hero abilities or the in-game courier.
Extended AFK behavior or otherwise not participating in a game that you have joined.
Joining a group with another individual that is in the low priority matchmaking queue will cause the entire group to be placed in the low priority queue until the group is disbanded or the low priority individual leaves.

What other effects does a Low Priority penalty have on an account?

An account with a Low Priority penalty will also experience the following consequences while the penalty is active.

The account will not qualify for any item drops.
Achievements and quests will not be counted.
Battle points or other seasonal rewards cannot be earned.
Queuing with other accounts will place them in the Low Priority matchmaking pool while partied.

What if these behaviors are performed while an account has an active Low Priority penalty?

If an account in low priority engages in any of the activities outlined in the above section, more Low Priority games will be assigned to the account. If an account is already at the max five-game penalty, a matchmaking ban will be applied in addition, preventing matchmaking of any kind.

What if technical issues are resulting in game abandons?

We know this happens, and we’ve built in a small threshold to accommodate occasional abandons. A single abandon will not put you into low priority.

If you are continuing to experience technical issues that result in abandons, it is important to keep in mind that this is causing a bad game for the other 9 players as well. We encourage you to address the underlying issue, so that you can complete the game penalty free, while also making sure that the other players can complete the game as well.
