Denying

Denying is the act of preventing enemy heroes from getting the last hit on a friendly unit by last hitting the unit oneself. Enemies earn reduced experience if the denied unit is not controlled by a player, and no experience if it is a player controlled unit. Enemies gain no gold from any denied unit. All allied units can be denied once they fall below a certain percentage of health: creeps, and non-hero units at 50%, heroes at 25%, and towers at 10%. However, heroes can only be denied under special circumstances. Illusions and couriers cannot be denied.

To deny a unit, an attack command has to be ordered on the unit. Unless the “Right-Click to Force Attack” option is enabled, right-clicking the unit does not work, since right-clicking allies gives a move order, not an attack order.

A creep is not considered denied if a neutral creep (e. g. Roshan) deals the finishing blow and thus will give full experience to the enemy heroes.

Contents

Denying units [ edit ]

Besides couriers, every non-hero unit can be denied, including creep-heroes. They can be denied once their health falls below 50%. Denying an allied, non-player-controlled unit (lane creeps which are not taken over by players) grants 40% of its experience bounty to enemies within the 1500 experience range, instead of 100%. The denying player also gains 20% of the creep’s gold bounty when denying. Denying a player-controlled unit grants 0% experience to the enemy, and also none to the denying team.

Especially in the laning phase, denying allied lane creeps is important to create a gold and experience advantage. It can lead to having a level advantage over the enemy, opening up a chance to get a kill on them. Gold-wise, it cripples the enemy’s farming, slowing them down significantly, if they depend on farming gold. Creeps should be denied whenever possible, although getting last hits should be prioritised. Denying creeps is also important to shift the creep equilibrium towards closer to the own tower and away from the enemy tower.

Player-controlled units can be denied as well, but unlike lane creeps, most summons expire after a while, so that their bounties can be “denied” in other ways than killing them manually with attacking. For many small summons, this does not make much of a difference, but can still be done when possible. Especially when having multiple units, they can be used to deny each other. Bigger summons, like Warlock’s Golem and Spirit Bear , should always be attempted to deny, since they usually have significant gold and experience bounties. Denying these units is an excellent way to prevent giving the enemy free gold and experience when the unit is unlikely to survive.

Denying towers [ edit ]

Towers may only be denied once they drop to 10% health and below, yielding half its gold bounty to the enemy team and half to the denying team. Denying a tower also prevents an enemy player from receiving the 150-250 bonus gold for the last-hit.

Denying heroes [ edit ]

Heroes can also be denied under specific circumstances. A denied hero prevents the enemy from gaining any experience or gold from the kill, but still loses gold upon death.

A hero under 25% health and under the effects of certain spells can be denied by an allied hero. The spells that allow denying allied heroes are:

During Supernova , Phoenix may be denied in a similar fashion if the sun is below 50% health.

It is possible to deny oneself (commit suicide) in a variety of ways:

It is also possible to deny allied heroes with some abilities:

  • Centaur Warrunner ‘s Retaliate fully works against allied attacks, resulting in a deny when its damage kills an ally.
  • Chen ‘s Holy Persuasion , Enchantress ‘ Enchant , Lifestealer ‘s Control and Helm of the Dominator ‘s Dominate can be used on an enemy ranged unit that has a projectile attack in flight, and results in the denial of an allied hero if the attack deals the finishing blow.
  • Oracle ‘s False Promise , if cast on an ally under the effect of an enemy Winter Wyvern ‘s Winter’s Curse that takes enough damage to die from allied heroes will be denied, rather than having the kill granted to Wyvern.

HMMM. Interesting. I personally don’t like getting Mask of Madness on Sniper , he’s too squishy if he gets caught out of position.

Eye of Skadi is one of the best items on Sniper . I say this because:

****ing Snowball Bullets Are ****ing Majestic
    You Slow People
    You Become A ****ing Tank
    ****

Drow Ranger ‘s Ice Arrows, Eye of Skadi Is So Much Better
You Stun AND Slow
What’s Not To Like?

Eye of Skadi is generally my big item on Sniper , I very rarely go without it, and almost never go without Satanic , which is so much better than Mask of Madness , by about 5% extra lifesteal, possible 200% lifesteal, str, better build-up, MOAR TANK *****ES!

I like playing Sniper and always laugh when I see Mask of Madness on a Sniper , as any good player will be able to punish it (Gotta love dat Blink Dagger Naix, SUCK IT *****ES!).

Why don’t you start with Wraith Band ? It makes it so much easier to last hit, and don’t give me that **** about “Starting with Wraith Band makes you so ****ing squishy early on” because it doesn’t, you get Wraith Band , Iron Branch Iron Branch +2 Pooled Tango and you’re fine, trust me, I have a 100% winrate with those starting items 😛

In very rare situations where your team is losing and you need to do something to win fights, getting Skull Basher + Monkey King Bar is legit, I d > Skull Basher is ****ing terrible on Sniper as he’s a ranged hero.” STFU, imaginary person that should probably not be used in any other place than my gu >

Good guide overall,

Yet it’s interesting to see none of the alternative builds mention desolator which trainwrecks enemies in 3 successive shots.

IMO, for the early stages of the game MoM is a very viable choice, but it should be transtioned into desolator+hyperstone if the game prolongs to late/superlate game combats.

About your caster build, and how you increase your skills. I am assuming that you use his Q in order to farm, but I feel that this is kinda an ineffective method of farming when mana regen isn’t really going to be that extensive until Orchids, and that is going to be someway past the laning phase because we’re not starting that till after Drums. For that matter, Take Aim is how Sniper survives in lane. He is squishy, and he has no escape mechanisms. He will not get a Shadow Blade as core with the Caster build either. That’s why I feel like not maxing Take Aim first is incredibly dangerous and leaves you with little to work with, plus little means to run if ganks do come, and will come, your way. Shrapnel has really great range. And by the time you need it, you should have plenty of damage. And it’s slow even at 3 is still very nice. That’s why I felt that maxing Take Aim first, then Shrapnel, then not leveling Headshot until after Q is maxed (or even taking only one point if you really need that mini-stun to stop a channeling ability instead of a point in Shrapnel) would be a better build. Because all the damage will be largely from a combination of his Q, autoattacks and Orchid. The loss of damage from his W isn’t so bad.

Also, I’d suggest getting Drums after Orchid, because that’s more of a complimentary item than anything. Your Orchid should be rushed, since you need it as soon as possible. Like, right after whatever boots you get. If you really need damage, I would suggest getting a Wrath Band or even building it into Aquila if you REALLY need mana. Dota 2 headshot 1812

And because we’re taking Take Aim first, Tranquil Boots are unnecessary as you shouldn’t be taking damage. If you are. Say, in a lane with some long range harass, like Shadow Demon, then by all means get them. But otherwise, he should be safe now. Sniper’s early game should be played cautiously and with his Caster build even more so.

Also, I wondered if Ethereal Blade would be any good for this build, and I thought that maybe it would be but only in conjunction with some kind of positioning item.

The most famous strategy game of the decade – DOTA 2

Dota 2 officially came out of the beta version on 9 th July 2013. Ever since its player base has only seen an increase every year. This is very much because of the fact that numerous people have seen dota as a means of becoming rich while having fun. Dota 2 was the first game to offer a tournament where the winning prize was 1 million US dollars. Back in its time, this was something astronomical for the players and the world went ablaze because of Dota. How to install dota 2 on other pc People from all the world started taking Dota seriously and all the great players tried their hand at the tournament and only one team of 5 people came out victorious. The tournaments only got bigger and more luxurious every year as the biggest prize pools had reached around 25 million US dollars. Dota is now closing in on its sixth year and is not showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Where to download Dota 2 from?

Since Dota 2 is a game that is actively supported on Steam, we will certainly use the official way to download it.

If you have ever gamed on a PC then you obviously know what Steam is. For those of you who have just entered the PC gaming industry, Steam is the place you would go to buy digital games and sometimes software as well. There is no competitor to Steam when it comes to its sheer dominance in the market. From providing a stable place to play online games with your friends or finding those classic retro console games, Steam definitely has it all and is not shy to show it off.

Checking requirements

We always check for hardware requirements of a game but never bother to check the software requirements, as in the supported operating systems of the respective game. This is because we are trained to play on a Windows computer but that needs to change now. A lot of games are not supported on operating systems other than Windows and you do not want to purchase a game only to find out that you cannot run it. A way to make sure that you only search for Linux based games is by typing ‘Linux’ into the search bar. Since Dota 2 is free to play, there will not be a price next to the Play Game button. This means that it can be downloaded for no fee and be ready to play.

Installing Steam

The first way to install Steam is by using the Ubuntu software center. Open the software center up and search for Steam, you can’t miss it. Do that and pretty soon you will be able to download games to your machine.

Another possible way to install the Steam client on to your machine is by typing the following command into your terminal screen:

On the very first start-up of Steam, you will be greeted by an update screen. This screen makes sure that the Steam client is up and ready for the latest version. The next step into getting into Steam is to enter our login information into the username and password fields that show up and press enter. Steam will then verify the information you entered and upon confirmation, take you to the homepage.

To download Dota 2, click on the big bold ‘STORE’ button on the top left of the screen. From there, you can see a search bar. Use it to find Dota 2. It will be a bit below the toolbar which you clicked ‘Store’ on. Apart from the game, there can be many related items available in the store that might show up. Click on the game entry in the list and proceed to the main page of the game. From there, you can see a ton of information on the game such as reviews, system requirements and trailers etc.

The beauty of Steam is that it makes everything so easy. When you have put a game on download, you can completely forget about it until it is done. Steam will simply give you a notification that your download has completed and will let you get to it at your own will. There will be no rush to do anything about it or make adjustments whatsoever. During the whole process of the download, you can continue to use your system fully. The only thing that you should be careful about is not to put something else on download at the same time that could divide the download speed. If it’s outside of Steam, Steam won’t give any warnings about it and simply make do with reduced download speed.

Continue your tasks uninterrupted

By default, Steam pauses downloads whenever you play a Steam game when it is downloading something. This is a very helpful feature as it takes away the troublesome method of pausing a download and then going into the game you are playing. This feature is especially useful because it also removes any unwanted lag you might feel from the downloads that are taking place. This feature is helpful in online games and can be disabled in offline games where there is no internet usage. This allows the downloads to resume in the background without affecting your gaming experience.

Once the game has successfully downloaded on Steam, you are all set to play it on your Ubuntu system. Enjoy an uninterrupted and smooth gaming experience by following the aforementioned method.

In-game Guides [ edit ]

Guides (sometimes also called Hero Builds) are guides created by players, that can suggest items and highlight abilities to level. They can be created and shared by players either in-game or through the Hero Builds Editor.

“Hero Builds Editor” has been out of order, probably since 2014.

Changes [ edit ]

Dota 2 Gu >

Ezalor, the Keeper of the Light (KotL), is a ranged Intelligence hero. He rides around on a horse, carries a staff, and has a big bushy beard. He’s Dota’s version of Gandalf. Keeper of the Light is a common pick in lower MMR brackets, but less-skilled players rarely make effective use of his skillset. KotL gives his team a huge amount of tactical flexibility, and is fully capable of serving as a solo support to four greedy cores. Mastering the wizened old wizard is an excellent investment of your time, especially for players who are looking to diversify their Dota hero pool.

Hero Overview: Keeper of the Light’s Abilities

Keeper of the Light’s strength as a hero partially comes from the freedom he provides to the rest of his team. Illuminate lets you repel early pushes, cut down creep waves, buy your team valuable farming space, and dish out an impressive amount of damage. Once you’ve bought an Aghanim’s Scepter, Illuminate can also be used to heal your teammates.

Mana Leak is one of the most frustrating abilities in the game, crippling mana-dependent heroes, setting your team up for pick-offs, and preventing enemy playmakers from being active around the map. Mana Leak is similar to Bloodseeker’s Rupture, as KotL uses the ability to “[w]eaken an enemy’s magical essence, causing them to lose mana as they move.” The worst part? If you lose all your mana from a maxed-out Mana Leak, you’ll be stunned for three seconds. In most cases, this is a death sentence. Think of Mana Leak like a ranged version of Diffusal Blade.

Chakra Magic is a steroid-dispenser for your team, keeping their mana pools topped off and reducing spell cooldowns. The sheer utility of Chakra Magic should not be underestimated — if used correctly on teammates, it helps them farm faster, increases kill potential in lane, and means that mana-starved heroes like Juggernaut won’t have to make a premature trip back to the fountain or spend crucial money on regen.

Recall, one of KotL’s Ultimates, is massively under-utilized by most players. Reading the ability text should give you an idea of how powerful this spell is: “After a short delay, [Recall] teleports the targeted friendly hero to your location. If the targeted friendly hero takes player based damage during this time, the ability is interrupted.” Recall can be used to bring in reinforcements before a fight or keep split-pushers safe across the map. Blinding Light obliterates right-clicking physical carries in team fights, giving their attacks an 80% miss chance that lasts up to six seconds.

Keeper of the Light Item Builds

As far key items are concerned, you’ll always want to pick up Tranquil Boots on KotL, and almost every game is made easier by purchasing an Aghanim’s Scepter at some point. Outside of these two items, you can be pretty flexible.

Keeper of the Light is easy to pick off, especially during the early game, so buying a Force Staff, Ghost Scepter or Glimmer Cape can provide you with some much-needed survivability. If you don’t need an escape tool right off the bat, you should feel free to buy whatever your team needs most, whether it’s a Helm of the Dominator, Euls Scepter, Solar Crest, or Rod of Atos.

Effective Keeper of the Light Playstyles

Honestly, how you decide to play Keeper of the Light is up to you. In games where you’ve got a second support and your lanes are going well, you might want to spend time in the jungle stacking and farming camps with Illuminate. In other cases, especially when the enemy is pushing early, you might find yourself babysitting or camping beneath a tower and pushing back enemy waves while your carries roam the woods in search of farm.

You’ll always want some early points in Chakra Magic, but sometimes it’s wise to prioritize Mana Leak, particularly if you plan on ganking or harassing an enemy hero. It’s worth mentioning that you don’t want to spam Illuminate in lane and push the wave when your carry is trying to farm.

General Advice for Playing Keeper of the Light

Keeper of the Light excels against mana-dependent heroes and early push line-ups. You do have to exercise caution against mobile mid heroes, however. Mana Leak can ruin the escape plans of heroes like Storm Spirit and Ember Spirit, forcing them to buy Euls or Linkens (and thereby limiting their damage potential). At the same time, KotL is a bit fragile, and if you give them the opportunity, high-mobility heroes will feed off of you without hesitation. Heroes like Medusa, Weaver, Faceless Void, Leshrac are also excellent Mana Leak targets.

Keeper of Light can also run offlane strats alongside heroes like Bristleback, providing him with the mana and reduced cooldown he needs to spam his spells and delete the enemy’s safe lane. You should be aware of KotL’s powerful synergy with Anti-Mage–your Mana Leak can be used to set up massive Mana Voids, while Recall lets AM maximize his farming efficiency around the map.

Batrider is a ranged intelligence hero who excels at initiation and harassing enemies. He is a mobile raider capable of dealing enormous amounts of damage, though he must close in on targets to pull it off. Batrider begins by spraying areas with Sticky Napalm, a stacking debuff useful for hindering enemies or gaining vision. In order to get a better view he activates Firefly, leaving a burning trail of liquid fire that scorches those who dare cross his path. Now able to cross through previously impassable terrain Batrider has free reign to decide how to continue his reign of terror. If he’s feeling generous he’ll hurl an explosive clocktail as a parting shot. More often, he seizes victims with Flaming Lasso and drags them back through his burning trail to the clutches of merciless allies. Used properly, Batrider is a fearsome hero constantly risking his own safety to incite fiery chaos and destruction.

Batrider is traditionally played as an initiator, dragging enemies back to his team with Flaming Lasso. The ability remains the number one reason he is played competitively. However, considering how strong Lasso is in the right hands, it often gets nerfed a little, and Icefrog compensates by giving Batrider more magical damage, or a bit of attributes.

You will usually want to head to the offlane. If you are not facing a mean-looking trilane, you can probably start with a point in Sticky Napalm, that will help you secure last hits, harass the enemy carry, and trade hits with his support. Not only does it increase your right-click damage and applies a small slow, it mostly drastically reduces their turn-rate. Once the support is done harassing you (perhaps a new creep wave is coming along), you can assuredly land two or three extra attacks while they ever-so-slowly turns around. Of course, you should cross that if they can dispel your Sticky Napalm ( Fortune’s End , Aphotic Shield . ). If you cannot get near enough anything to attack it, you could be better off with a starting point in Firefly as the unobstructed movement can help you run away to safety, or perhaps to hide in the trees to leech experience without getting noticed.

In your average game, the offlane should become unsafe soon enough and you’ll want to head to the jungle to catch-up on gold and experience. Batr > Blink Dagger , then gank somebody with Smoke of Deceit .

As for items, you’ll usually start off with Wind Lace that will upgrade into Tranquil Boots . Get Tango , perhaps an Iron Branch or two that you can either plant for extra regeneration from Tango, or turn into Magic Wand . Once you have farmed a Blink Dagger , your next core item is Force Staff .

From there, every other item is luxury. Get a Black King Bar to guarantee your initiation. But, maybe the enemies’ abilities go through spell immunity so a Linken’s Sphere is a better choice. Eul’s Scepter of Divinity is nice to have for the extra movement speed to drag your enemies further, as is Boots of Travel . Thanks to the unobstructed vision you get from Firefly, you’re also a great Gem of True Sight carrier. If you’re getting starved for item slots, cons > Hurricane Pike for extra attributes and lower cooldown.

Damage-oriented [ edit ]

Now that Flaming Lasso has such a bad cast range, and that Flamebreak deals so much damage combined with Napalm, we have seen pro-players skip entirely the Lasso in the early game. It is a good choice to make if you can spam the enemies with Napalm (no mobility or dispel on their s > Blink Dagger to take some points in Lasso.

The build order we give is only an example. If you’ve already read the tips we give on Napalm, you may think it is best to max it out first since it is eventually the skill that will dish out the most damage. However, in practice, it is sometimes difficult to get enough stacks of Napalm to justify leveling it over your other skills, mainly Firefly which is much more reliable and has a much larger AoE once you’ve circled around for a couple of seconds.

In an actual team fight, you’ll have to consider all the enemies instead of a single one, and you certainly won’t be able to stack Napalm on all of them. These enemies will disrupt you as you’re chasing a target covered in Napalm, and that enemy will try his hardest to stay away from your Firefly. That’s where Flamebreak comes in. If you can’t keep up with your target, Flamebreak can either bring him back in your Firefly, or the DoT can be enough to finish him off, especially if he’s covered in Napalm. If you only took a value point in Firefly since the damage scales poorly, any target that hasn’t got a stack of Napalm on him can ignore it entirely, whereas it’s at least a little significant with more points in Firefly and no stack of Napalm. Overall, you’ll have to adapt your build every game and see what’s working best for you.

For items, Tranquil Boots should still be your boots of choice, although Arcane Boots can be a good alternative. The Energy Booster it comes with can be recycled later for an Aether Lens or a Lotus Orb . You can take an Enchanted Mango or two to further boost up your regeneration and cast an extra Flamebreak when low on mana, and get an early Wind Lace as well, to increase your chasing power. This Wind Lace can be upgraded into Drum of Endurance , a great cost-effective item that suits Batr > Crown will upgrade later into a Veil of Discord that will do wonders for your damage output.

The game should eventually settle down and you should return to your tradtional initiating role and go back to your standard Blink Dagger and Force Staff .
