Dendi

Danil “Dendi” Ishutin (born December 30, 1989) is a Ukrainian professional Dota 2 and former DotA player. Well known for his solo mid skills, he is regarded as one of the most creative players in the scene today, and is renowned for his unorthodox play style and unconventional skill and item builds. After having played for Natus Vincere for the entirety of his professional Dota 2 career, he finally departed the active roster for the first time in September 2018. He currently plays for The Pango.

Biography [ edit ]

Born in Lviv, Ukraine, Dendi got an early start with competitive gaming in net cafes when his elder brother married, moved out and took the family’s PC with him. Dabbling with Counter-Strike first, he soon found Warcraft 3 where he played in local tournaments and built a love for the competition and a thirst to be the best. Though he was quite successful in Warcraft 3 and even won a few local championships in Lviv, he knew he had found his calling when he stumbled upon DotA. He picked up the game quickly and played it almost exclusively over the next few months.

Beginning with learning only supports, he practiced heavily and was quickly vouched to the IHCS1 league and soon created his own team for tournaments in Lviv. After he led his team to a championship in Kiev, he was drafted by a team called “Wolker. Gaming” and began his professional career at 17.

DotA [ edit ]

Dendi started playing professionally with WG in 2006. [1] He was a part of the Ukrainian squad that finished third in MYM Prime Nations the same year. Only a few months later WG made it to the grand final of one of the most prestigious tournaments at the time; MYM Prime Defending. [2] When Kingsurf. international merged with WG the next year he became a full-time member of Ks. int. [1] In late 2008 he joined DTS, only to return to Ks. int in March 2009. [3] Three months later though, Dendi returned to DTS. [4] The team would end up finishing 2nd at ESWC 2010. At the end of 2010, Dendi and DTS finished 3rd at the prestigious WDC 2010. [5] Dendi joined Natus Vincere at the end of 2010. [6]

Dota 2 [ edit ]

Dendi started his Dota 2 career with Na’Vi, who quickly established themselves as one of the best teams in the world by winning The International 2011. Na’Vi continued to dominate and won many tournaments in the years 2011, 2012 and 2013. Dendi was the center of Na’Vi’s consistent stable and skilled rosters, with his performance greatly contributing to their success.

The Natus Vincere Dota 2 team achieved significant success with Dendi as their midlaner during the first few years of the game; they finished as the runners-up for both The International 2012 and The International 2013, losing out to Invictus Gaming and Alliance, respectively. 2013 would mark the last year of Na’Vi and Dendi’s dominance in the Dota 2 scene, as they only recorded two LAN victories since January 2014. The International 2014 saw Na’Vi and Dendi finishing the tournament outside of the top 2 for the first time and the following two Internationals, TI 5 and TI 6, they would finish in last place. The results would deteriorate further, as they would fail to even qualify for The International 2017, they failed to advance out of the group stage of the regional qualifiers. This marked the first year of The International tournaments without Dendi attending as a player. The 2017/18 season started of promising for Dendi and Na’Vi, who dominated the CIS scene in the early months, crowning their improving results with their second LAN victory since 2014. However, the second half of the season saw the roster break apart and finally the team would fail to even reach the regional qualifiers for The International 2018, after losing in the open qualifier.

Four years of roster instability and poor results finally took their toll on the reputation of the Na’Vi organization and on Dendi’s status as a legendary player and a top tier midlaner. After 8 years playing mid on Na’Vi, Dendi was finally removed from the active roster in September 2018. However, Dendi vowed to continue playing professionally. After a brief stint on Tigers, Dendi joined The Pango.

Dota 2 vs. League of Legends: Updating the numbers

League of Legends just hit monthly user milestone, Dota 2 just hosted one of the most successful tournaments of all time, but how do the numbers compare in 2016? The world’s top two MOBA, sharing one of the biggest markets, are often compared neck and neck by not only what type of players frequent each game, but how many players are actively playing.

In 2014, eSports enthusiast Zoe Hawkins compared the two by numbers, and today I’d like to give an update to see just how far we’ve come in two years. I’ll follow a similar structure as I feel the original post encompasses the important aspects.

Number of players

On September 13th, Riot co-owners Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck told Polygon that they’d estimate League’s active monthly player base at around 100 million. While they haven’t released a statement regarding the peak concurrent users, there is a rough 33% increase annually, which means that number should sit around 13-14 million peak concurrent players. Don’t take the number to heart as it’s just my maths, and not official.

Dota 2 is slightly easier to track with Steam Charts offering an updated number of players frequently. August 2016, after the International, Dota 2 saw an average of 635,795, with Peak players at 1,117,519. The number is still surprisingly lower than League of Legends, even though their number has not been officially released yet. According to Dota 2’s official Blog, the unique players in the last month is currently over 13 million, which is a significant increase since the last time we talked numbers. If my maths is correct, that’s on average 87 million less than League of Legends.

The most surprising deduction from the above figures is that even though League of Legends is not strictly free-to-play (in-game purchases, heroes, skins, etc), they still outmatch Dota 2 on a monthly basis.

Prize Money

League of Legends offers a unique monetary system for players and organizations involved in the LCS. The LCS is the League Championship Series, which involves a circuit of professional tournaments paying out at each competition. The players who are part of the LCS also receive a salary, so this comparison is tough one to make. In 2015 the LCS World Championships had a prize pool of $2.13 million, while the crowd funded Dota 2 International 2015 prize pool sat at $18.4 million.

In latest 2015 Valve instated the Majors which paid out $3 million each (there were three). The International 2016, which ended in August, had a whopping $20.7 million prize pool, which is the highest prize pool for any eSports, to date.

The overall numbers speak for themselves, as well as the highest earning eSports players are mostly Dota 2, according to eSports Earnings, who make up the top 55 players in the World. While it seems Dota 2 is winning by a mile, we cannot forget that League of Legends has a very unique system comparable to conventional sports and it’s hard to gauge which title offers the bigger prizes. However, in terms of tournament winnings, Dota 2 takes this one.

Viewership

The most recent data showcasing League viewership came from the 2015 LCS World Championship where League boasted an all-time recording breaking viewership. Below is an extraction from their official statement on 2015 Viewership:

Total cumulative daily unique impressions (the amount of unique viewers that tuned in every day via online and television channels) reached 334 million over the four weeks (from 288 million in 2014). In fact, over the course of all 73 games, we saw an average concurrent viewership (ACU) of over 4.2 million, with the average fan watching for well over an hour per viewing session.

And for the Grand Final:

For the final between SKT and Koo Tigers in Berlin’s Mercedes-Benz Arena, peak concurrent viewership (PCU – the highest number of fans tuned in at any one point) was 14 million – up from 11 million in 2014. Overall, the unique viewer count for the Final was 36 million – a record-breaking high for any esports event and a climb from last year’s Samsung White-Royal Club matchup at Sangam Stadium which drew 27 million unique viewers.

Dota 2’s 2015 International brought in roughly 20 million viewers, after their partnership with ESPN for TI5. This number is still considerably low when comparing League’s performance in 2015, but with a larger player base comes larger viewers.

While we would have to wait for the 2016 World Championships (starting next month) to compare it directly to the International 2016, we can compare their numbers to the above shown information. Valve have not released the exact numbers for the 2016 Dota 2 International, but Dota 2 did top the Twitch. tv charts in August with over 33.2 million hours watched. The one number released was for the opening match of the International which brought in 1.1 million viewers.

Rising Competition

If we take a look at the two titles, operating in the same genre, there isn’t any real competition. Smite (the last comapred title) has fallen off considerably, and the only title which now somewhat comes close is Overwatch which has seen considerable growth over the past few months. Overwatch, however, is still in its infancy, and while the numbers are growing, they are still miles away from. For the Atlantic Showdown which took place at Gamescom, Overwatch pulled in 75,000 concurrent viewers. The ELEAGUE Overwatch Open kicks off next month, and again this will truly gauge whether this eSport can compete.

So, from the above numbers it seems League of Legends is still the dominant MOBA, with Dota 2 forever trailing. However, we’d like you fight it out in the comments.

Dota 2’s Diretide event: a tale of $1000 golden couriers, exploits, and Halloween drama

I’ve had a ton of fun in Diretide since it was released. Valve quite clearly put a lot of work into a holiday event for a game that is still technically unreleased.

If you are unfamiliar with how Diretide works then I highly suggest popping over to my Diretide guide to find out the basics. However this tale is about one addition in particular, the “Sugar Rush Hall of Fame”. This leaderboard shows the fastest ten players that slayed Roshan at the end of each Diretide game. If they’re the fastest for that cycle, they win a Golden Baby Roshan. This isn’t just any courier or item, it’s about the rarest and most valuable thing in the game right now: with one of the couriers selling for over $1000 on the grey market. But how teams are earning their couriers is proving controversial: with suggestions that their methods are simply exploits.

New to Dota 2 and don’t know which heroes to play? Take a gander at ourbest Dota 2 heroes for beginners guide.

First, some background. The Diretide event sees players battling to fill cauldrons full of candy. When one team wins the candy phase, it’s eaten by Roshan, Dota 2’s vast boss monster. If you then kill him, in his post candy state, he’ll drop a prize. The fastest teams in a roughly two day cycle to kill Roshan earn the golden couriers.

When the event started, the fastest teams were taking Roshan down in just over two minutes. It seemed harmless fun. But the competition changed.

This is the current hall of fame leader. Just to be clear: that’s not 9 seconds for the Roshan kill. It’s .09 seconds.

So what’s going on? Thanks to Dota 2’s excellent replay editor, we can watch exactly the strategy used. And it’s clear that this wasn’t two teams of five playing against eachother. It’s one team of ten, working together.

Here’s what they did: one player from each team would stand by their respective cauldrons. The rest of the team goes to the enemies and start making them drop candy. When one of the designated players returns the candy, BOTH teams receive money and experience. After only a few minutes all ten players are at their maximum level, while also having any and all items they desire. There’s no effort made to compete: they’re just farming the game until they have everything they need. Roshan goes down near instantly.

But there’s a wrinkle to this: how did these teams find each-other amongst the 150,000 people playing Dota 2?

Well. The matchmaking is split into skill brackets, with higher skill players placed in a far smaller pool. And to boost the chance they’ll play together, they queue for matches on dormant servers, where the normal population would be asleep. And they’re disconnecting at the ready stage of a match; avoiding the abandonment penalty.

What it means is that players of higher skill have a huge advantage in earning Valve’s Diretide prizes: and not just because they’re more highly skilled. And that advantage is making those who don’t exploit the event, pretty grumpy.

There’s even more to the exploit. The .09 second kill shows that the team discovered you could damage Roshan before the timer began. Using Dagons (an item that causes magic damage), the fountain and some heroes that amplify magic damage, the enemy team could continuously keep Roshans health so low that when phase three started, he died almost instantly

This was clearly an unintended mistake on Valves part and would be remedied with a quick hotfix, the current record being removed as a result. Right?
Well not exactly. A patch was released which rendered Roshan invulnerable until phase three began. But the mentioned record still remained, now being impossible to beat. In another patch the day after things changed undoubtedly for the worse. Valve added cycles to the hall of fame, where roughly every two days it resets and the current record holder is awarded a “Golden Baby Roshan trophy courier”. As you can see from the above image, the players with the .09 second record were rewarded with the courier.

The community was naturally upset but with new super rare couriers to be won, most spent their time trying to get into the hall of fame for cycle two. The eventual winners are probably the most legitimate so far, discounting of course taking advantage of the matchmaking system to get all ten players. Watching the replay reveals using a team composition based similar to the first cycle winners, based on amplifying magic damage. They got Roshan down in 30.19 seconds, a bit more believable to the previous winners.

One of the players named “Hailo” went to reddit with his newly acquired prize and asked for cash offers. After an expected amount of fake offers, another reddit user “jgros” closed a deal of $1000. He even provided proof of the purchase, while also using the famous UTCAdmins as a middleman. Upon checking his inventory, it’s clear that he does in-fact have the courier.
Suddenly everything changed. Big money was involved.

Cycle two ended and the next began, now with another method of abusing unintended mechanics. It was discovered that if both teams are at an even score, phase three does not begin until one team has the advantage. This as well as being able to get Roshan stuck while chasing a player results in being able to delay the game indefinitely. One hero in particular, Pudge, can use this to grow incredibly strong. Strong enough to kill Roshan instantly.

However to get this strong requires lots of kills, so many in fact that the games bugs out, unable to display the true number of kills. Pudge steals strength from each hero he kills thanks to Flesh Heap, a passive skill that is retroactive. Once he gets enough he can effectively sit in the enemies fountain and kill the entire team of five instantaneously with a few items. This goes on for a whole seven hours, until he has roughly 60,000 strength. Using an item called Ethereal Blade he can convert his strength into damage, dealing 180,000 damage to Roshan and killing him.

Now the only way to have a chance in beating that time was to find each other by gaming the matchmaking system, and then devote seven hours of ten peoples time. The final time was down to 0.36 seconds. Valve had to step in right?

A patch hit the client late last night, adding a new cycle and now making phase three start at the end of phase two regardless of the score. Again the method was fixed, but the players responsible were still awarded their golden courier. It seemed that Valve were almost rewarding players for finding exploits before patching them. A lengthy thread on the developer forums is a perfect example on the anger, confusion and frustration this has caused.

The current strategy for defeating Roshan, at the time of writing, is still based around amplifying magic damage. But it’s just a matter of time before theorycrafters find another loophole to beat the record. Diretide keys earned for playing Dota during the event expire on the 12th, and it’s assumed that’s when the celebration will end. The next six days are going to very, very interesting.

The new heroes started their journey pretty underpowered, not even reaching 45% win rate in their opening days. Players getting acquainted with their skill set and some balance changes have finally made heroes playable in high level pubs and also made it possible to start discussing them, since it is unlikely they will be receiving anything but some minor number tweaks in the nearest future.

The Reach beta has concluded and the team is now working hard towards the Season 1 launch. Here we share some of the details on the upcoming Season, and what players can expect when they log in to play.

The new patch is wild, with all the positive and maybe some negative connotations this word implies. As such, we are trying to be extremely cautious when discussing it so that we don’t unnecessarily invoke some misguided disenchantment from the community.

62 new items are available for finding, not purchasing. You can now build your inventory through jungling and not spending your gold. Is this good? Bad? Who knows, it’s too early to tell.

The Reach Beta has been a valuable month for us at Elo. The feedback from our community has allowed us to make considerable progress in refining the key automated systems of the platform and we couldn’t possibly be more excited to see people begin to play in Season One.

This is going to be less of a stats recap and more of a farewell to a patch, which overstayed its welcome for at least a couple of months. Instead of going over the same heroes once more, we felt it is more appropriate to highlight some of the heroes which were outside of the meta at the tournament’s start, but nevertheless had a great impact in the later stages of MDL Chengdu.

Bounty runes, come back gold, ancient creeps, camps stacking, and more. The economy of Dota keeps growing and growing but how does that affect supports and cores?

We’ve done a lot of testing with our current systems in the Reach league and are finally confident in opening it up to more users. Divine level players may now participate in Reach, effective immediately.

The first major tournament of the season is finally happening. Get up to date with all the teams participating, their odds of winning it all, and more!

Patch 7.22 is certainly overstaying its welcome and it clearly shows in the current professional tournaments. There are almost no new meta developments and for the most part the Summit 11 concentrated on the same exact heroes as the tournaments prior.

Captains and drafters are some of the most revered pros in the scene. The genius drafting strategies and counter picks can win the game before the first bounty runes spawn. Here are some draft ideas to try out for your next battle cup tournament.

Reach had an exciting and informative first week of games, with over 1000 matches played, and over 1200 unique players participating. Here’s the rundown on week 1, and what’s coming down the pipeline.

The idea of a tanky frontline hero in the offlane has been repeated over and over again for the last several months. It makes sense on the professional scene, while working incredibly well in pubs. Building survivability items and allowing yourself to be initiated on has become the go to strategy for a lot of teams and it is unlikely to change until after the new patch is released.

MMR may just be a number but a higher number is superior. Read this article to learn a few tips and tricks on growing your MMR number.

The current meta has been established for a long time but teams still must find their slight edge. At ESL One Hamburg 2019, we saw more of what we’ve been seeing for a few months now.

4. Items

Who is Axe ?

1.Axe is an initiator, pusher and a carry. Not only that he can support the team well by taking all hits and killing off heroes when they reach a certain amount of hp.

2.Counter Helix: This ability should be max out first as Axe has a low amount of manapool and mana regen. Not only that your Berserkers Call(that is to be max after counter helix) will give you a large amount of chances to activate your counter helix which will greatly help you out in early gangfights and killing off soft heroes near towers.

Introductions to Abilities

-Forces everyone within 300 radius to physically attack you
-Gives you bonus armor points

Since it has only 10 second cooldown it can be use both offensively and defensively. You can use it to kill off wounded heroes with disabling abilities(i. e wraith king, lion).
You can use it to survive against some skills while going to the fountain(finger of death, laguna blade)as you can use it in sight of nukers and help a wounded teammate by forcing thier attacks on you.

-Allows you to spam heroes and allowing easy culling blade in early gameplay
-Gives Axe a bonus movement speed when cast on a player

It can be use to kill off heroes that are out of attacking range
It is usefull when you need to abandon your teamfight due to low health or any disadvantages

-Deals 100-205 damage around Axe
-Has -1 sec cooldown
-No need for mana and has a 20% chance when attacked

Since Beserkers call makes the opponents forcefully attack Axe there are more chances of counter helix and making it usefull in teamfights and taking down large number of creeps.
Hence, making this the most useful ability Axe has.

-Kills an enemy instanly if health is at 300/450/625 or less Hp
-When a kill is made by using this ability, Axe and all nearby allies will get bonus movement speed for 6 sec

It is one of the most useful ability in a team fight as it can kill durable heroes easily if they are within the threshold and goes through shallow grave

Pros and Cons of Axe

Pros:-
1.Has a high hp and hp regen
2.Has an ability to handle large amount of creeps(Counter Helix)
3.Has ability to kill off heroes when they reach a certain amount of hp or below

Cons:-
1.Has low manapool and manaregen
2.Abilities consume lot of mana
3.Some of his abilities cannot work when certain condition is received
4.Has an ability that can immediately go off by killing a simple creep or hero

Items

Early Items and Boots

Poor Man’s Shield and Infused teardrops can help you in surviving some attacks and nukes. Allow you to farm and kill heroes quickly

Tranquil Boots can help you with farming in both lane and in the jungle but does not give any attributes against heroes. While Power threads can help you greatly in terms of hero as it makes you more sturdy.

Soul Ring is also necessary when there are some long ranged heroes or heavy nukers as you will need to deal damage by using your battle hunger.

When using Axe you must mainly focus on making yourself sturdy and hard. Therefore using Vanguard or Hood of Defiance depending on the battle situation. I.e vanguard is useful when there are a lot of heavy hitters while hood of defiance is needed when there are lots of nukers and ability reliant heroes.

Black King Bar and Blademail is also necessary as it provides you spell immunity for a short time(which is useful in hero handling)and allows you to repel back all the damage you received(which is very useful as you will be sturdy and will have a lot of Hp.

Heart of tarrasque and Assault Cuirass give a lot of armor/hp bonus and it one of the most needed items of Axe alongside with Shiva’s Guard as it provides Armor and manaregen both which Axe needs.

You can buy Crimson Guard and Pipe of Insight if you have troubles on farming and killing on heroes as they provide you reduced damage taken and reduced magic damage taken.

Thank you for reading this guide and please leave out a like.(P. s The talents given are just for show not recommended for every battle)

Since this is a widespread issue among all unusual couriers, I have mass merged all the threads on the matter, and I’ll be compiling a list of effected couriers beneath. If your courier or essence combination isn’t on the list, please report it here.

This thread used to maintain a list, but at this point, it suffices to say that all unusual couriers are affected.

The following method used to work until the 09-05-2013 patch:

GUIDE TO MAKING THE EFFECT WORK:

Step 1: Select hero in-game (don’t hit “Play Hero” just yet!)
Step 2: In the hero customization section select the unusual courier
Step 3: un-equip the courier
Step 4: re-equip the courier
Step 5: .
Step 6: Profit

Test case: to find out what caused unusual courier effect missing from game under different setting.

Practise with bots mode(without equipping the unusual courier)==> Default courier
Practise with bots mode(equipping the unusual courier)==> Unusual courier with effects

Create a lobby mode(without equipping the unusual courier)==> Default courier
Create a lobby mode(equipped the unusual courier BEFORE creating a game, thru player inventory)==> Unusual courier WITHOUT effects
Create a lobby mode(equipped the unusual courier AFTER creating a game, thru player inventory)==> Unusual courier WITH effects

This means:
1. Game servers failed to check EFFECTS TYPE of player’s equipped Unusual courier, a bug
2. In bots game, the GAME itself checks the EFFECTS properly
3. When DE-EQUIP and RE-EQUIP the courier again in game, server check and recognize the Unusual EFFECTS
4. The bug most likely to occur during the game LOADING time.

Maybe you should stop? There are a lot of people who have experienced this out there, and then you always show up and tell us we are wrong. It is an observation, not an assumption, AN OBSERVATION, that after a win streak we end up having a series of tough games. *WHICH MEANS IT IS VERY REAL* So it is basically you vs everyone else who has experienced this. Therefore you are the one who replies with idiocy don’t you think?

P. S., your points don’t have anything to do with the FACT that after a win streak, most players (unless you are very skilled and can solo carry any game) and up playing the next few games win a “weaker” team against a “stronger” team. *LISTEN TO ME AMD GET THIS INTO YOUR THICK SKULL THIS TIME THAT I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT PROFILE LEVEL OR HOURS PLAYED.

So I came here to complain same thing. This is a newly created account and in my first match my team are all level 1 while 3 from our enemies are level 40,56,and 61 and 2 level 1 too but pro. PLEASE FIX THIS UNFAIR UNMATCHING for ♥♥♥♥s sake!!

So you made a smurf, screwing up matchmaking, then cry about matchmaking?

Lol. kids just get smarter by the day.

Conspiracy theories just prove how sad you are, and how you can’t handle the fact that you lose. Oevel isn’t even considered in mm. the players you are playing with, and against, are all drawn randomly from the same pool of players, who are all near the same rating.

Don’t let this get in the way of your excuses for failure though.
