Dota 2 patch 6.86 released, first pro games happening right now

Update 16th December, 2015: The patch is now live to download through Steam, after a day of bugfixing and other bits and bobs on the test server. I sure hope they fixed everything. Wouldn’t be like Valve to release content that hadn’t been tested properly now, would it?

Now would be a good time to play some nice Dota 2 custom games and forget your troubles.

If you’re interested in watching some pro games, esteemed PCGamesN contributor Chris Higgins points me at this arhiveof Virtus Pro vs. Team STARK, part of the MarsTV Dota 2 League, which was the first Dota game of 6.86 played. Mid-series, even. What a fun trainwreck it was.

Meanwhile the World Cyber Arena has started, a much-maligned but nevertheless massively-prize-pooled Chinese tournaments with some of the best teams in the world, including Secret and all the major Chinese teams. The streams are split across BeyondTheSummitand the pair of JoinDota streams, Red and Blue. It’s running until Monday, and will be the final tournament of the year as well as the first tournament on 6.86.

Update 15th December, 2015: The full patch notes are now available for The Balance of Power, as the patch is officially known. It adds a hero, Arc Warden, four new items, redesigns Riki, Doom, Death Prophet, Faceless Void, Lone Druid and Winter Wyrvern. Perhaps most terrifying of all, Earth Spirit (along with Oracle and Terrorblade) has been added to Captain’s Mode.

You can read the full patch notes on the official site. Here’s the highlights:

  • Added Arcane Rune, reduces cooldowns and mana costs.
  • Added a new neutral hard camp for each team, near their respective Secret Shops.
  • Iron Branch can now be used by targeting the ground, planting a happy little tree.
  • The usual billion and a half hero and item changes.

Original article:Dota 2’s next massive patch is just around the corner, but patch notes for 6.86 haven’t yet appeared. Instead there’s a teaser site, memes and anger. Just what the doctor ordered.

The teaser site has a nice big image of a team containing current-patch all star Doom and lesser friends Lone Druid (bear not pictured), Faceless Void, Rikimaru and Death Prophet. All the community’s digging and theorising and possibility considering has resulted in nothing of any possible worth being gleaned from that, but gosh have they tried:

Meanwhile the thread on Reddit linking to it so far has 5000+ upvotes in a little over an hour, which is impressive work for something that is, as the flair says, “literally nothing.”

We’ll keep this post updated with whatever comes to pass. In the mean time, here’s proof that the Dota 2 Test Client has been changed today, another sign the patch should be coming soon, were one needed. For now, the waiting game continues.

Imho, this should be the default settings for all players. Currently, I may be wrong but I think the defaults are set fairly high or even maxed.

The game sure looked great when I first started playing but has become quite unstable about six months ago. And by unstable, I mean dota shutdown windows at completion of a match (possibly due to excessive requirements ancient’s death has on video requirements). If your computer cpu, ram, graphics card, etc. can handle higher settings, then go for it. But the average player would benefit not crashing their computer due to default settings causing game-stopping performance issues.

Trying to say something? Feel free to speak your mind.

I already have 16 mb ram and new video card. Within last six months or so, dota2 patches have reduced game performance i. e. the disconnects and long load times mentioned above. Which is why I upgraded ram and video card to try to compensate. Only after reducing video settings to basic did I fix the issue.

Cuanto pesa DOTA 2

DOTA 2 – OpenGL support for Windows (164 MB)
DOTA 2 – Premium DLC
DOTA 2 – Reborn Beta
DOTA 2 – Vulkan support (223 MB)
DOTA 2 Workshop Tools DLC
DotaVR

Lina, the Slayer, is a ranged Intelligence hero, adept at destroying enemy heroes quickly by delivering massive bursts of magical damage, making her one of the most effective gankers in the game. She possesses immense damaging capabilities all throughout the game, but is very fragile. Two of her fiery spells are her main source of damage, Dragon Slave sends a wave of fire to burn enemies in her path while Light Strike Array stuns them with a concentrated pillar of solar flame. Each of her spells deals great damage early on and has a low cooldown. Her Fiery Soul bolsters her attack and movement speed every time she casts a spell, which gives her scaling damage for the later game. Laguna Blade, her ultimate, is her ace in the hole. Lina fires off a huge bolt of lightning at a single target, dealing colossal damage. Laguna Blade’s damage is staggering in early-mid game, and late game is still enough to destroy frail enemy heroes. Dragon Slave, Light Strike Array, and Laguna Blade are incredible flaming nukes that can incinerate her target instantly, and Fiery Soul allows her to transition into a strong and fast physical attacker. Though her power falls from its peak late game, mana-boosting and damage-increasing items can be purchased to keep herself up.

Abilities [ edit ]

  • Dragon Slave travels at a speed of 1200, taking 0.9 ( 0.98) seconds to travel the full distance.
  • Can hit units up to 1275 ( 1375) range away (travel distance + end radius).
  • The complete area is shaped like a cone.
  • Light Strike Array destroys trees within the affected radius.
  • Light Strike Array first applies the debuff, then the damage.
  • The visual effects and the sound during the 0.5 second effect delay are only visible and audible to allies.
  • Lina has two different animations for this spell, leading to two possible cast backswing durations.
  • Using items does not trigger Fiery Soul.
  • Each spell cast refreshes the duration of the whole stack, making it theoretically possible to permanently have max stacks on.
  • At 2 stacks the buff grants 10%/12%/14%/16% ( 14%/16%/18%/20%) movement speed and 80/110/140/170 ( 140/170/200/230) attack speed.
  • At 3 stacks the buff grants 15%/18%/21%/24% ( 21%/24%/27%/30%) movement speed and 120/165/210/255 ( 210/255/300/345) attack speed.
  • Places a debuff on the target, which applies the damage upon expiring. The debuff lasts 0.25 seconds.
    • This means the spell can be avoided by being invulnerable or hidden (or spell immune when not upgraded) as the debuff expires.

  • Iron Branch prov >Clarity sustains mana so Lina can keep using abilities, threatening enemies more.
  • Magic Stick is useful since Lina is squishy and has multiple high-cost low-cooldown spells picking up Magic Stick can increase her early staying power greatly.
  • Boots of Speed helps Lina get into position to land her abilities while avo >Bottle is a common pickup for Lina when playing in the mid lane.
  • Phase Boots ‘s attack damage complements Fiery Soul to increase Lina’s damage output.
  • Arcane Boots is a viable alternative, especially for a more support oriented Lina. Dota 2 lina gameplay vancouver
  • Bloodstone can solve Lina’s mana issues while also improving her low HP pool. With enough charges, she can keep up her full stacks of Fiery Soul without having to worry about being out of mana during the next team fight.
  • Eul’s Scepter of Divinity enhances Lina’s positioning even further and greatly boosts her mana-regeneration because of her high base Intelligence and Intelligence gain. It can also be used to set up Light Strike Array fairly reliably.
  • Blink Dagger gives Lina the ability to stay back in safety, then blink in at an opportune moment to cast her Light Strike Array before the enemy can see it coming and evade it.
  • Aghanim’s Scepter roughly boosts Lina’s Laguna Blade damage by another ability point, increases her survivability because of the increase to her attributes, and lets her damage stay relevant even against Black King Bar users in the m >Drum of Endurance improves her own positioning and all attributes for relatively low cost and also benefits her team.
  • Shadow Blade can be useful for a carry Lina, as it helps her to cast Light Strike Array while invisible, and also prov >Scythe of Vyse gives her team an important disable that also helps to ensure she lands Light Strike Array. Furthermore, its attribute bonuses will make her a bit more survivable and drastically improve her mana regeneration.
  • Crystalys prov >Daedalus or Bloodthorn depending on your preference.
  • Black King Bar is sometimes picked up when Lina is carrying, especially against teams with many disables.
  • Shiva’s Guard both helps with Lina’s mana regeneration problems as well as her low armor value while also benefiting her team with Shiva’s Guard’s aura and active ability.
  • Rod of Atos prov >Octarine Core ‘s lifesteal gives more survival potential in teamfights. Also, it gives a huge intelligence boost, as well as a greater ability to spam spells.
  • Ethereal Blade is a decent luxury item if the farm is available. It allows Lina to amplify her magical nukes, and slows enemies to help her land them. Using the active on herself is also a good escape mechanism against late game carries.

[Hero] Queen of Pain

6.86 nerfs:

  • Scream of Pain damage reduced from 85/165/225/300 to 75/150/225/300
  • Sonic Wave travel speed reduced from 1100 to 900

You can avoid drawing creep aggro when blinking on an enemy hero by issuing a right-click or attack command on that hero while over 500 range from the enemy creeps (You don’t need to be in range of the hero, just issue the command). As soon as you issue that command, you have 2 seconds where creeps will not aggro you, and you can blink in and try to kill the enemy hero without being at a creep disadvantage.

The utility here is minor since you should almost never blink in unless you are going for a kill, and if you go for a kill ideally the enemy is low enough that you can burst him and get out without caring about creep aggro, but for laning I think it’s still a fascinating little tip that demonstrates the niceties of heroes that 99% of people would never think of.

Obviously it works better for AM since he routinely blinks in to harass an enemy laner due to the vastly different natures of their lanes.

Obviously it works better for AM since he routinely blinks in to harass an enemy laner due to the vastly different natures of their lanes.

while you are right somtimes killing in mid can be about doing right click not bursting, if he think he can handle the dmg same goes for taking a tango before blinking in for that regen, its like all games, nothing work straight on paper, all depends on their hero their picks and their playstyle.

there is no “one way” to play but i agree with you still.

Qop have very flexible item builds anyway. You could either try to go semi carry with DPS, or you stick to traditional caster route with hex/Shiva. Dota 2 queen of pain 6 867 5309 I really prefer the former though.

Mood/situation:
–> Mjollnir for shits
–> Deso
–> Guinsoo
–> Agh

Don’t think I’m in a high enough skill bracket (read: not even ranked) to know what really beats out Akasha in lane (other than maybe Zeus and Krob), but this has gotten me through a lot of my games.

1: Last hit and creep skip harass mid lane until level 6
2: Use damage to kill wounded mid hero or use blink to get 6 minute rune
3: Gank and stuff

Usually this works pretty well. Problem is, after the 15 minute mark my number of deaths tends to skyrocket. I think this is because I take a laning phase attitude into the m >

Like DucK – said, item choices are very flexible except for the core Treads+Wand+Bottle+TP. I like to throw in a Null Talisman because of its cost-effective stats for QoP, while still having 1 slot for items like dust/sentries before your first big item, e. g. linken’s/orchid. Treads swap often while using regen items, your mana pool will thank you for it.

Skillbuilds – some prefer 2-1-2, others 1-1-3 for laning. It’s dependent on who you’re facing in mid – Tinker/Storm/SF/Bat/melee mids are fairly common to run 2-1-2 against, but generally you’ll want the early burst for ganks.

I’ll try to help RuiBarbO when I’m home.

I would put more emphasis in farming than in ganking for qop. Pretty much the same as ta. Dota 2 queen of pain 6 867 5309 You only roam/gank when there’s a good rune, or if you are coming from fountain. Otherwise you concentrate on farming. Always carry a tp for counter gank/opportunistic gank, standard solo mid procedure.

The easiest way to fall off with qop is to neglect your farm and levels. Easiest way to win is to farm heavily while still participating in fights. You pretty much only start roaming when you can comfortably solo kill (orchid/rune), or if you’re moving together with another roamer.

Well you definitely don’t need the mael that early or at all. You probably want the hex and potential bkb before you ever consider transitioning to DPS.

There is no standard build per se. You usually want an easy to build mid ranged first item that improve your role as a caster. Whether or not you go orchid, necro, dagon or Agha depends on the game and play style. After that you consider the need for defensive items or/and hex, before branching to either purely caster route, or DPS.

Yea though once you go DPS, you tend not to want to go caster. Can’t say the same for the other way though.

Duck – basically gets this right.

The idea that QoP falls off naturally and you have to commit super hard to ganking and sacrificing your own tempo. She develops smoothly over the entire game provided you get a good tempo going and keep it. If you die, it’s very easy to keep dying because a bump in her tempo can cause her to lose her pace. So you want to carefully manage your farming+fighting smoothly. Her lategame if you keep a good item progression is quite good.

[SOLVED] Dota 2 Fail to Launch (Mumble compatibility issue)

So I had posted on another thread about not being able to launch Dota 2 after a certain update, but I figured I’d make my own thread regarding the issue and the solution that worked for me. My computer is running Windows 8 64-bit (may not be relvant to the issue).

Symptoms:
When launching Dota from Steam, a window briefly says “Preparing to launch Dota” (or maybe it says game, I forget), then the window vanishes, and nothing happens, no process in task manager, nothing. Also following the false launch, is a brief steam cloud sync on the game in the list, and on the steam icon in the tray.

My fix:
For ME, this turned out to be a compatibility issue between Dota and Mumble (a free voice communication program, similar to ventrilo). Specifically, this turned out to be an issue with the Mumble Overlay feature, which I was not actually using, but it WAS enabled in Mumble settings. If you are a Mumble user, I recommend disabling the Overlay in settings. If this does not work, or you do not wish to disable the overlay, an alternative solution is to close Mumble, launch Dota, then relaunch Mumble.

If you do not have Mumble, and have tried other various fixes (I will paste one method below that Valve sent me via email), I would systematically disable everything non-Dota related, such as firewalls, anti virus, all other programs, and DMZ your computer in the router, launch steam as Admin, launch dota as admin (from the folder exe), and see if Dota launches under those conditions. If it does, then you know one of those things is the issue. That is how I isolated Mumble as my cause.

I hope that helps people. I hope the devs see this and see if they can fix compatibility with Mumble on their end. I have not had this issue with Mumble with any other game. In fact, I used to not have this issue at all, and was able to play Dota with Mumble just fine. Either an update to Mumble or an update to Dota broke the compatibility between them. I will attempt to forward the issue to the Mumble team as well.

If my method did not work for you, you are welcome to try this procedure and view the links that Valve gave me:

Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation – if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).

Delete all of the files in this folder except:

– \Steamapps\ and \Userdata\ folders

– Steam. exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo)

Restart your computer.

Then, launch Steam. exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

With Steam running, re-test the original issue.

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

If the issue persists, make sure your network is optimized for Steam:

Ladies and Gentlemen the official announcement for one of the biggest competitions in gaming has finally come!

It has been a very busy week, not only featuring the deployment of the Spring Cleaning Patch as well as the conclusion of some major tournaments, now this huge news bomb has been dropped by Valve.

All the competitors have been announced, and they will play in the KeyArena at Seattle Center, WA, USA, a venue large enough for the 17.000 lucky fans that bought their tickets before they sold out on the first day !

This year, the main event will begin earlier than usual, starting in the 18th and ending on the 24th of July. As with the previous editions, it will feature 16 teams battling for a prizepool that will be over 2 million dollars!

Without further ado, the 11 invited teams by Valve based on performance and achievements are:

To fill the remaining 5 slots, there will be qualifiers to decide which teams will be worthy enough to join the above ones in Seattle! This time around, instead of having East and West, there will be 4 different regional qualifiers!

The teams participating as well as their respective qualifier dates are:

American Qualifier (May 12-15 12:00 PM EST): Union Gaming, Sneaky Nyx Assassins, No Earthspirit, eHug, Osiris Gaming, CNB eSports, Team Liquid, Revenge eSports, North American Rejects and TOP5

The format of the qualifiers will be a one game round robin between all teams, with the top 4 teams advancing to the second phase while the other 6 are eliminated.

The second phase will be a best of 3 double elimination bracket with the top 2 teams in the upper bracket and the other 2 in the lower bracket.

The Grand Final of each qualifier will be a best of 5 match. The winner of each qualifier will directly join the invited teams while the runner-up of each qualifier will still go to Seattle to fight the other region’s runner-ups for that last 16th slot.

The official blog post can be found here. Madness will surely ensue in these next weeks so be sure to not miss any of the frenetic action!
