StarLadder Day 1: IAP takes down VP; Secret to upper bracket

The 10th season of StarLadder is about to see its conclusion as the LAN finals have kicked off. Underdogs IAP were able to upset after their initial loss to Na’Vi. The Philippines managed to take down VP. In group A, Evil Geniuses display a dominating performance, securing an early lead in the group. In group B, Team Secret has secured themselves a slot in the upper bracket.

Tinker picked a line-up that was more or less reliant on taking early control and building a momentum, which they were on they way of doing until a clash when terribly awry top rather early on. They tried to claw their way into the game but with lacking initations from qojqva’s Centaur, EG’s heroes proved too massive, especially Arteezy’s Razor.

Alliance went for the classic Loda-oriented game, however Tinker drafted a mobile and explosive draft which swiftly countered the heroes of Alliance. Alliance could not pull off their 4-protect-1 strategy as their heroes had no real impact in the clashes versus the tanky heroes of Tinker. Loda couldn’t find his split-push trades and Tinker controlled the game. The cores of Tinker got found the space they needed, got bigger and bigger while Alliance’s heroes fell further and further behind. Even though their Naga was farmed, they couldn’t keep Tinker from destroying their base.

VP’s yol dictated the pace of the early game with some clutch rotations on his Ogre, creating a lot of space and grabbing an early advantage for his team. Secret was able to pull themselves back with their teamfight heavy line-up and traded back and forth with VP. The Russians still had the upper hand throughout the midgame and were able to grab a timely mid barracks. They failed however to push in once more, giving Secret much space to farm. Secret’s line-up with Ember Spirit and Gyrocopter thrived in the late mid-game and the Europeans won teamfight after teamfight and punched in victory.

Execration had a good start, being able to pick off both Funn1k and Dendi early on. The Ukrainians however quickly gained an advantage, winning the following skirmishes. IAP traded unfavourably, giving away crucial kills on core heroes such as Naga Siren. Na’Vi proceeded to pick up BKBs on their cores and were able to win teamfights even more convincingly, pushing IAP to the edge and forcing out a gg.

The game started out quite chaotic with some odd dives and trade going on around the map but a few minutes into the game, the deciding factor started kicking in. IAP successfully shut down the Spectre played by Bzz and he did not once during the game managed to find the amount of farm he needed. Virtus Pro fought on and Sedoy and G had some presence in team fights but overall the damage was done; Jay’s Death Prophet was too far ahead and Bzz’s Spectre too far behind. The defensive pick by VP resulted in them getting close to zero towers, dealing further economic damage to the team. The Pinoy squad eventually forced VP to call “gg” after hammering outside their base for some time. South East Asia takes the their first Starladder victory in Kiev and Virtus. Pro will most likely find themself starting the playoffs from the loser bracket.

The North-Americans opted for a very push orientated line-up with a lot of sustain, mainly in their Necrophos and Abaddon. Alliance answered with a Timbersaw and a Terrorblade and the laning phase was definitely in the Swedes favor, but as soon as EG hit crucial levels and pushed, Alliance had no answer anymore. Without the Blink Dagger on Apemother’s Centaur, Alliance could not find rebuttal pick-offs. Instead, they opted for splitpushes but EG grabbed crucial pickoffs with the new Reaper’s Scythe, benching heroes for over a minute. EG revived the deathball and pushed the issue early on and punished the greedy draft from Alliance, not allowing TB to come online. A gg call was just a matter of time. With this match, Alliance will most likely be dropped to the lower bracket.

Na’Vi opted for a well-rounded teamfight line-up, whereas VP drafted themselves a pushing line-up with a farming Venomancer and a Lycanthrope. The team took down a few towers rather quickly, while Na’Vi was able to find pickoffs around the map. With those pickoffs, Dendi secured himself a sub 20 minute Scythe of Vyse. It would’ve been a snowball match if VP hadn’t farmed quite effectively with a Midas and all the tower gold. The Russians were able to stand on even ground in crucial teamfights and secured an important Roshan fight victory. From there on out, VP played it out cool, finding crucial pickoffs and then pushing in. Na’Vi was unable to take down the tanky heroes of VP and the Russians take home victory.

The Philippines kicked off the game with an early first blood and was able to acquire even more kills on their aggressive trilane. With a very conventional line-up, IAP took an early lead and cornered Team Secret. Despite their teamfighting line-up, the Europeans were unable to trade favorably at first, giving away multiple objectives. As the game dragged on however, crucial items and a few pickoffs got Secret back into the game and they traded evenly until they grabbed the lead. IAP’s line-up was lacking lockdown outside the Earthshaker and could not contain the tanky line-up from Secret. Together with their Elder Titan, the Europeans were able to slice through IAP’s line-up to secure their second victory and a slot in the upper bracket.

Learn to control pets with Dota 2’s Lone Dru >

Advanced Tactics

Once you feel comfortable with the basic mechanics of swapping between multiple units, give it a try in lane. Having a pet with you lets you overcome the age-old problem of “two creeps are dying at the exact same moment, which one do I hit?” by simply hitting them both with your two separate auto-attacks. It’s addictive, but the real trick is being able to recognize when it’s too dangerous to have both Sylla and Spirit Bear up front racking up denies and busting open gold piñatas.

Sometimes you have to use your pet to safely last-hit creeps while Sylla hangs as far back as possible. Spirit Bear will auto-attack enemy creeps (if you leave auto-attack enabled in the settings), but it won’t deny unless you directly order it to do so, just like heroes.

Trying to rack up the absolute maximum amount of gold and XP in the lane is good, but keeping both Sylla and Spirit Bear alive is even better. You’re vulnerable without Spirit Bear, and its summon cooldown is several minutes, so play it safe if you accidentally let it die. And don’t feel bad when you try to frantically tell Sylla to retreat and realize you had your Spirit Bear selected instead, sending the poor Lone Druid into the time out box for a spell. It’s happened to all of us.

If Spirit Bear does get in trouble, use its Return ability to teleport it back to Sylla (keep in mind that the ability can only be activated if you haven’t taken damage from an enemy hero or hero-controlled unit in the last three seconds). The timing on this is something you’ll want to master. Among many things, it allows you to tower dive onto an enemy hero, using Spirit Bear to root them in place with it’s passive ability that gives every hit a chance to snare his target. It’s perfect for setting up an ally alley-oop without having to suffer the consequences of overextending.

When you’re too slow on that escape and the bear gets hit too hard, you can send it back to base to heal up on its own. Sylla can stay in lane and soak up XP and gold during the bear’s trek.

This is the second phase of your advanced training: learning to use Spirit Bear away from Sylla. Lone druid dota 2 jungle path Spirit Bear can’t attack when it’s more than a moderate distance away from his partner in tree-hugging. If you want to see the exact distance, open up your console (

key) and type in dota_range_display 1100 . This will put a green circle around your character that shows the maximum range Spirit Bear can be from Lone Druid and still attack. To remove the circle later, just type in dota_range_display 0 .

But there’s still plenty of uses for sending Spirit Bear out on its own. First, it can function as a courier, buying and bringing items to Sylla on the front lines.

When it’s not buying, rooting, or fighting, Spirit Bear is best sent spying. After you clear a jungle camp, send Sylla towards the next one and Spirit Bear towards the most likely route an invading enemy would take towards that next camp. You’ll either see them early and be able to retreat safely, or have peace of mind when clearing the camp safely. Teleport Spirit Bear back to Sylla with its Return ability when you’re ready to fight. This same scouting strategy can be used to check nearby jungle areas while in a lane, as well.

These are just some of the main uses of a combatless bear, but there are plenty more out there. Start looking for opportunities where having someone soak up damage would be helpful. Creep wave headed towards an undefended tower? Send Spirit Bear to absorb the hits instead of the building, or, even better, lead them into jungle creeps who will fight them for you.

Master tweaks

If you can lane effectively with a pet, that’s great, but remember that laning is pretty much square one for most heroes and there are a lot of tricks we’ve yet to master with Lone Druid.

For example, you can use Spirit Bear to block single-target skill-shot abilities from enemy heroes, like Pudge’s Meat Hook . Doing so will require knowledge of your opponents’ abilities, crazy quick reflexes to move your hero and your pet into the perfect positions, and getting a feel for your individual opponents’ playstyle and timing. But when you pull it off, it feels great. Of course, most of Dota 2’s skill shots affect areas rather than the first target it hits, so you’re mostly just hoping to bait the ability casts by pressuring them with Spirit Bear. Every ability cast at him instead of an actual hero on your team (I hope Spirit Bear doesn’t maul me for saying that), is a small victory.

And, of course, it works both ways. You can also use Spirit Bear to leap-frog friendly abilities forward, like Dazzle’s Shadow Wave to deal extra damage to the enemy heroes from distance or Lich’s Ice Armor to slow enemy attackers if they try to hit Spirit Bear.

Start to experiment with Sylla’s Bear Form in lane as well, and learn when its extra defenses and melee boost outweigh the cons of losing ranged attacks and moving slower. It’s impossible to give blanket rules for when to shift forms, but you’ll get the feel of it as you play and size up your opponents in each match.

Some general guidelines to get you started: True Form (Bear Form) is usually the best choice outside of laning. It makes Lone Druid more tanky and increases his damage output, if he can afford to get into melee range.

No matter what Sylla’s doing, Spirit Bear can set up some easy kills for your team. But learning when to push him onto enemy heroes is more art more than science. You need to be willing to send it into danger, but don’t want to offer it up as a free sacrifice. Its passive abilities give it a chance to root its target (and the Orb of Venom you hopefully bought for it adds a slowing effect), and it can sprint in crazy fast with the right items.

Learn to recognize when a teamfight is about to engage, and send the Spirit Bear in after a squishy that your team is ready to pounce on, or to block a path that they might try to use as an escape. Outside of team fights, use Spirit Bear to check treelines or trap enemy heroes trying to pester your team from the jungle.

And of course, your magnum opus will be when you find yourself in an abandoned co-op game vs. bots and you take control of all five heroes and manage to micromanage them to victory singe-handedly. Once you’ve done that, you will be declared an official pet master. Fair warning: that’s going to be at least 10-15 different abilities to manage, so if you get overwhelmed easily you might want to just focus on making two of them efficient, and just let the others auto-attack between ults.

Your homework

Happy pet taming this week, Dota 2 all-stars. As always, you can download Dota 2 on Steam . You’ll need a beta invite if you aren’t already in, but Valve has been giving them out like stale Halloween candy, so it shouldn’t be hard to find one. If you need one, ask in the comments below and a PCG reader will likely help you out. Once you’re in the beta, all of the heroes, including Lone Druid, are 100% free, so you can practice with him right away.

Five goals to aim for as you learn to control pets with Lone Druid:

1. Root an enemy hero with your Spirit Bear when it matters most, and your team gets the kill.

2. Let Spirit Bear revel in the victory of getting a last-hit on an enemy hero.

3. Teleport your Spirit Bear out of battle with Return when it has less than 20 health left.

4. Clear the entire jungle without dying.

5. Fill all 16 available item slots in a single game.

Creep Stacking

is the process of drawing neutral creeps away from their camps in order to increase the number of units in an area. Dota 2 stacking tricks 6 86 Generally, neutral creeps will spawn in the first minute of the game and at every minute thereafter. So 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 etc. However, new creeps cannot spawn if a unit such as a player or a ward is present within the camp’s boundry. By pulling neutral creeps beyond their camp boundaries, the game will generate a new set of creeps for the player to interact with in addition to any remaining creeps. This is incredibly time efficient, since it effectively increases the amount of gold available for a team. In many cases, a support who has stacked a substantial amount of creeps can build a sizable chunk of gold for not only his fellow teammates but also himself for getting stacking bonus of 35% of the bounty. However, this can work against you if the enemy team reaches your camps first and neither will the stacker get the bonus bounty.

Contents

Basics [ edit ]

To stack a camp, you can either attack a unit in the camp or simply walk close to it. The neutral creeps will then attempt to chase you for a few seconds before returning to their initial position. Most camps can be stacked at around the 53-54 second mark. However, this timing varies depending on the spawn box size and the type of units involved. If done correctly, a new set of creeps will spawn at the minute mark.

The above method can be done multiple times, but the timing might start to differ. This is because some creeps have auras which affect movement speed, and they can get in each other’s way. Furthermore, all neutral camps can be stacked indefinitely; as long as all the creeps have escaped the camp boundaries.

Camp Boundary Boxes [ edit ]

These images show the boundary boxes that the creeps cannot be in for a stack to occur. Click them for a larger size.

It’s always best to practice stacking as the hero you want to play before joining an actual match. The time at which you need to stack the camp will vary because of which camp type it is (different camps have differing lengths that the creeps will chase you), what neutrals are currently in the camp (some move faster than others, and some won’t leave until your hero gets out of their attack range), the attributes of your hero including their attack range if you’re attacking to get the creeps attention.

Each camp has a “Base Stack Time”. You will need to modify this based on your situation in the following ways:

  • subtract ≈:01 if you’re a melee hero & there’s a long-ranged neutral creep currently in the camp such as Vhoul Assassin Camp or Troll Camp
  • subtract ≈:00.25 If your ranged hero has a short range (such as Luna or Huskar) and there’s a long ranged creep currently in the camp.

Advanced Techniques [ edit ]

Certain heroes can stack creeps very quickly, such as Tinker and Clockwerk. With careful positioning and timing, Tinker can stack multiple camps at once using March of the Machines . Rocket Flare can block a camp or stack it from anywhere if Clockwerk damages the creeps.

Safespotting [ edit ]

By using ranged abilities, some heroes can attack and stack creeps at little to no risk. For example, Alchemist, Medusa, Bristleback, and Beastmaster can attack ancient camps at a distance using Acid Spray , Split Shot , Quill Spray or Wild Axes . With some trees cleared, the Radiant ancient camp can be attacked from the ridge near the secret shop. The Dire side is even easier due to high ground and the creeps can be reached quite easily from the upper ridge.

Creep Pulling [ edit ]

Although quite difficult to pull off, lane creeps can be used to absorb most of the damage dealt by a neutral camp. To do this, pull a neutral camp toward incoming lane creeps such that the incoming wave gets drawn toward the jungle. With careful timing, the camp will stack and the lane creeps can even be pulled toward harder camps which normally wouldn’t interact with the incoming wave. If done incorrectly, any remaining creeps will venture back into the lane and eventually push out the creep equilibrium.

League of Legends vs. DOTA 2

An introduction to the two

League of Legends and DOTA 2 are two of the most prominent MOBA’s or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games on the globe right now. The two might seem worlds apart, but they are actually both based on the same game mod which was Defence Of the Ancients which was released in 2003, with that itself being a mod for Warcraft III. However, skip back to the modern day we find fans filling up stadiums watching professional gamers of both League of Legends and DOTA 2 respectively. So what makes them so popular when it comes to E-Sports? And how is League of Legends pitting itself against DOTA 2?

One of the main things that attract players to MOBA’s is the strategy behind the game. If we look at the number of different team possibilities in LOL E-Sports , it is a staggering 765 quintillion or 7 with 20 digits following it. Not only this but there are many different strategies your team can take in terms of where to attack an enemy or to flank them at a certain point in time. There is also the vanity aspect where players can purchase customized skins for their favorite champions through micro-transactions. There are also constant updates to the game such as introducing new champions, making alterations to existing champions and introducing new maps.

How does League of Legends fare against DOTA 2?

Although the two MOBA’s are both based on the same game, there are plenty of differences between the two. We’re going to look at what gives League of Legends the edge over its fierce rival. Both games have the same base layout where there is a middle lane, a top lane, and a bottom lane. Typically you’ll have two players in the top lane, one in the middle and two at the bottom. The first significant difference is that there are more skill shots when it comes to League of Legends, a skill shot is where a player must manually aim and sometimes predict the movement of the opposition a couple of seconds ahead adding a new element of skill to the game.

League of Legends is also a lot faster paced than DOTA 2 where your champion can turn and move instantly, whereas the mechanics in DOTA mean that you have to wait for your character to turn before moving. The roles of each player in League of Legends is also a lot simpler. There are five leading roles, your ADC or Attack Damage Carry, Top, Mid, Jungler and a Support. However, this gets a bit more complicated in DOTA 2 with there being a total of 9 roles.

The E-Sports scene for League of Legends began in 2009 when the first professional league of legends tournament was hosted by Riot Games, the developers of the game. Since then we’ve seen tournament pots reach more than $2 million in 2014 and 2015 with the World Championship Finals being held in South Korea’s National Stadium.

A final few words

Last year there were roughly around 120 million people playing League of Legends and with the player base for DOTA 2 being approximately around 20 million. League of Legends was released after DOTA 2 however the amount of effort Riot Games has put into both the updates, the vanity aspects of the game and the E-Sports scene has seen them take the industry by storm; however the prize pots in League of Legends are dwarfed by the biggest DOTA 2 pot which was a staggering $25 million, with many of the wealthiest E-Sports stars being DOTA 2 players.

WETA Workshop To Produce Official Dota 2 Weapons, Armor And Statues [UPDATE: The International Has Begun]

[UPDATE: The 2012 Dota 2 International Championship has begun. If you’re interested in watching it, you can do so here.]

Well, Valve certainly seems to be taking Dota 2 very seriously! And with good reason, I’d say.

You might know New Zealand-based prop and merchandise production company WETA Workshop, from their stunning work on Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy (though I guess I should start getting used to calling it a hexalogy, or something).

But they’ve also worked on a huge number of other media productions (including District 9, probably the foohkin greatest thing I have seen in my life).

You might also know that they’re on very good terms with Valve – after all, they did create that amazing TF2 sentry gun replica which is still on display inside Valve’s lobby. They’re also the original designers behind the Dr. Grordbort line of Team Fortress 2 items, and real-life “aether oscillator” replica rayguns.

The first items in this line of WETA-produced Dota 2 merchandise will be on display at the 2012 International Dota 2 Championship, which starts tomorrow, on the 31st of August. In addition, WETA Workshop actually created this year’s International championship trophy, which will go to the winning team alongside the $1 million grand prize.

These WETA-produced Dota 2 items will be available for pre-order from WETA’s Dota 2 section, starting at 9AM US Pacific Time, tomorrow.

But that’s not all Valve is working on, with regards to Dota 2 merchandise. The honorable Matthew “Cyborgmatt” Bailey was recently invited and flown over by Valve, to attend the International in Seattle.

Just in case you were wondering, yours truly remains at home; patiently awaiting an invitation to the… Ricochet 2 International, or something – Valve, you’ve been warned.

But in any case – along with the competing teams, Cyborgmatt was invited to Valve HQ, where he took snaps of (and received) some very sensitive material (read: swag), including, but not limited to… Dota 2 trading cards! Much like the Team Fortress 2 trading cards before them, these things are… substantially fancy and indubitably shiny. I can now safely close my thesaurus, because it’s time to show you pictures of things.

That’s the trading cards. Next up are what seem to be store display panels for the International’s on-location swag shops.

They’ve certainly got a lot of stuff on sale! Note that they are bundling in-game Dota 2 items with some of the stuff being sold on location.

Looks like this… in-game Zonkey Courier (the terrifying lovechild of a donkey and a zebra) will be bundled with items #29 (the inflatable Donkey Courier, priced at $25 to $40) and #31 (the plush Donkey Courier, priced at $25).

Seems like a full pack of trading cards (pricey, $40) will contain one of the three exclusive International Couriers. You can only get these three guys during the International, through two other ways:

  • Opening an in-game International Treasure Chest (there’s two types of International Treasure Chests: the Treasure of Champions, and the Treasure of Challengers – each type contains 8 different items), using a special International Treasure Key, which you can buy from the Dota Store;
  • Or through getting Tournament Class item drops, during actual matches in the championship, by wearing an International Team Pennant.

I have no idea what I just said (not even sure if I was speaking English), but the Dota 2 Blog, as well as Cyborgmatt’s Blog have more details on these International item promotions.

But wait – there’s more! Apparently, WETA are not the only ones working on Dota merchandise, and theirs won’t be the only one being shown off at the International! Take a look:

Looks fancy – why, I had no idea Hellboy was in Dota! Here’s a closer shot:

Yeah, this guy looks cool. This means that NECA will be producing Dota action figures and such, while WETA will be handling the crazy stuff like armor, weapons and statues.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on the International, if that’s your thing. Earlier this month, Valve released the Dota 2 Spectator Client for free, to all Steam users, and that’s how you’ll be able to watch the International. The Spectator Client is offered as part of the actual Dota 2 game application, so if you’ve already got the game (through the beta survey, or through buying an access pass from the Dota Store), you won’t need to install anything else.

Strangely enough, they’ve also made Dota 2 available within the Valve Complete Pack. I suppose we can’t be too far away from its release now, and once that’s out of the way, who knows what’s next for Valve? Let’s not forget that Dota 2 is probably the biggest project they’ve ever tackled in a very long time. In fact, its development team is almost 100 employees strong, which is nearly a third of Valve. Although I’m sure a good part of the team will remain to handle post-release support. Which isn’t a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination, though.

Let’s just hope we get to see some more newbie-friendly features within Dota 2 before it launches – hell, even CS:GO had a tutorial, as well as a L4D-style instructor!

Beginner’s Gu > 03 Nov 2014 0 Games

Welcome to the first Hero how-to guide in my Beginner’s Guide to Dota 2 series. Today we will cover one of the most iconic and popular Heroes in Dota 2: the mighty Invoker. Invoker ranks with Pudge as arguably the most popular Hero for players to pick in a pub game, the reason for this being that you can show off your impressive Pudge or Invoker skills and win bragging rights. There is nothing more satisfying or publicly impressive as pulling off a fancy Hook or a perfect Tornado / EMP / Chaos Meteor / Deafening Blast combo and wipe the entire enemy team. Before you can do this however, you will need to master the basics and practice, practice, practice….

Invoker is a unique Hero in Dota 2, in that his four key-mapped abilities do not directly correspond to active or passive skills. For other Heroes, the keys Q, W and E activate (when applicable ie. an active skill) the Hero’s basic abilities, and R activates (again when applicable) the Hero’s ultimate ability. For Invoker, Q (for Quas), W (for Wex) and E (for Exort) change the three orbs that float around him. Depending on which three orbs he has currently, pressing R “invokes” a particular skill. The order in which the orbs are summoned does not matter. This makes Invoker the most versatile caster in Dota 2: he has access to a total of 10 skills, as compared to a maximum of four for all other Heroes in Dota 2. Invoker can have two spells invoked at the same time, the older invoked spell being removed once a third spell is invoked.

Without further ado, here are all the spells of the mighty Invoker:

QQQ – Cold Snap. Invoker draws the heat from an enemy, chilling them to their very core for a duration based on Quas. Further damage taken in this state will freeze the enemy again, dealing bonus damage. The enemy can only be frozen so often, but the freeze cooldown decreases based on the level of Quas.

QQW – Ghost Walk. Invoker manipulates the ice and electrical energies around him, rendering his body invisible. The elemental imbalance created as a consequence slows nearby enemies based on the level of Quas, and slows Invoker as well based on the level of Wex.

QQE – Ice Wall. Generates a wall of solid ice directly in front of Invoker for a duration based on the level of Quas. The bitter cold emanating from it greatly slows nearby enemies based on the level of Quas and deals damage each second based on the level of Exort.

WWW – EMP. Invoker builds up a charge of electromagnetic energy at a targeted location which automatically detonates after a duration of 2.9 seconds. The detonation covers an area, draining mana based on the level of Wex. Deals damage for each point of mana drained.

QWW – Tornado. Unleashes a fast moving tornado that picks up enemy units in its path, suspending them helplessly in the air shortly before allowing them to plummet to their doom. Travels further based on the level of Wex. Holds enemies in the air for a duration based on the level of Quas. Deals damage based on the level ofWex.

WWE – Alacrity. Invoker infuses an ally with an immense surge of energy, increasing their attack speed based on the level of Wex and their damage based on the level ofExort.

EEE – Sun Strike. Sends a catastrophic ray of fierce energy from the sun at any targeted location, incinerating all enemies standing beneath it once it reaches the earth. Deals damage based on the level of Exort, however this damage is spread evenly over all enemies hit.

QEE – Forge Spirit. Invoker forges a spirit embodying the strength of fire and fortitude of ice. Damage, health, and armor are based on the level of Exort while attack range, mana, and duration are based on the level ofQuas. The elemental’s scorching attack is capable of melting the armor of enemy heroes. If both Quas andExort are level 4 or higher, Invoker will create two spirits instead of one.

WEE – Chaos Meteor. Invoker pulls a flaming meteor from space onto the targeted location. Upon landing, the meteor rolls forward, constantly dealing damage based on the level of Exort, and rolling further based on the level ofWex. Units hit by the meteor will also be set on fire for a short time, receiving additional damage based on the level of Exort.

QWE – Deafening Blast. Invoker unleashes a mighty sonic wave in front of him, dealing damage to any enemy unit it collides based on the level of Exort. The sheer impact from the blast is enough to knock those enemy units back for a duration based on the level of Quas, then disarm their attacks for a duration based on the level of Wex.

Masking and filtering

DOTA 2 employs icon masking and icon filtering to change your apps’ external look and ensure consistency across the board. The designs are clean and colorful with multiple icon shapes and flat graphics. The icon designs are extremely varied. If you have a dark theme going, DOTA 2 provides icon packs that complement the dark look; if you don’t like the flat, material-design look, you have options that offer more depth to your icons. You’ll be hard-pressed to choose one mask over another, as each icon mask brings something unique to the table.

Supports multiple launchers

DOTA 2 Icon Pack works with a range of launchers. Besides supporting popular launchers, such as Nova, Apex, Action, and Solo, there is support for lesser known launchers too. This list includes Evie, Lucid, Aviate, Lucid, Next, and Mini, so the icon masks will adapt or blend well with your favorite launcher. The majority of the featured icon masks do not stray much – most are circle, square, or squircle icons with bright hues and consistent theming.

Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses, sometimes known simply as EG, is one of the oldest and most established organizations within the esports community. The club doesn’t restrict its efforts to just one esports game, like many others do, but instead plays a wide range of titles in order to gain more experience, versatility and revenue streams. The esports currently played by EG include Dota 2 and Call of Duty among others. This article deals with EG’s Dota 2 team.

Evil Geniuses: Early beginings

Evil Geniuses entered Dota 2 after the end of The International 2011. The team’s first roster was made up of the following 5 players: Fear, MiSeRy, DeMoN, PlaymatE and Pajkatt. With this lineup, EG had only a few notable results in 2012. Other players that joined the EG roster and had the chance to prove their worth in the first few years of the team’s presence in Dota 2 were Lacoste, Maelk, BuLba, UNiVeRsE, Bdiz, SexyBamboe, Jeyo, Fogged, MSS, mason and Arteezy.

With most of its early lineups, EG had decent and even excellent results, getting multiple top 3 finishes in 2013.

Glory Days

At the start of 2014, 3 formidable players joined Evil Geniuses, bringing the team’s skill level and results to a whole new level. These players were ppd (captain), Zai (position 4 support) and Arteezy (carry). After they joined, EG quickly went from good to great, winning no less than 8 tournaments in 2014, including Monster Energy Invitational, The Summit and World Esports Championship. The team also got an excellent 3 rd place finish at The International 2014.

After the departure of mason, Arteezy and Zai (the last two went to Team Secret at the start of 2015), Fear rejoined the team as a player and two other players were brought in. One was Aui_2000 and the other one was a very young prodigy who would come to amaze the world with his performances in the mid lane. His name was Sumail and thanks in part to his exceptional individual skills, Evil Geniuses had a phenomenal year in 2015. With ppd as captain and every player on the roster playing his role to perfection, EG won Dota 2 Asia Championships 2015, Dota Pit League Season 3 and then The International 2015. They also had numerous other top 3 placements in high-level events, but these 3 achievements definitely stood out.

The International 2015

By the time TI 5 started, EG’s roster had been well trained and had great cohesion. Sumail and Aui_2000 had been playing for the team for more than 6 months, Fear was everything he needed to be as the position 1 carry, UNiVeRsE was probably the strongest offlaner in the world at the time, and ppd was really good as the team’s captain, crafting winning strategies and outplaying opponents at every stage of the game, from the drafting phase to the late game fights.

Having won the lower bracket Final, EG qualified for the Grand Final and got another chance at beating CDEC and winning the Aegis of Champions. With everyone on the team playing the best Dota of their lives, Evil Geniuses won the Grand Final with the score of 3 – 1, creating some memorable moments along the way. The last of those 4 games was basically won in Roshan’s Pit, thanks to a scene that has come to be known as the “6 million dollars Echo Slam”. Practically, EG’s Ancient Apparition’s Ice Vortex + Ice Blast, combined with UNiVeRsE’s ultimate, killed 4 of CDEC’s members while they were trying to kill Roshan, giving EG a decisive advantage which couldn’t be undone.

The decline

Soon after winning The International 2015 and 6.6 million dollars that came along with this victory, EG started to decline quite heavily, winning just 4 more tournaments over the next 3 years. The team has tried all kinds of strategies and roster changes in these years, but to no avail. Still, the North Americans have remained one of the best Dota 2 teams in the world and they’re without a doubt a top 10 team right now. Furthermore, at The International 2016, the claimed 3 rd place after having a rather modest season. So not everything has gone bad for EG over these last 3 years. It’s just that the team hasn’t performed to the standard that had been by ppd and the 2015 roster.

Current situation

Evil Geniuses is currently sitting at number 9 within the Dota Pro Circuit rankings table, with 1335 points. The team has won a single Dota Pro Circuit LAN event this season, namely GESC: Indonesia Dota2 Minor. EG’s main objective at the moment is to get a top 8 finish at the end of the season so that it can get a direct invite at The International 2018.

EG’s current roster is made up of the following 5 players: Arteezy, Fear, Sumail, Cr1t – and MiSeRy, with the last one being the team’s captain.

How to Bet on The International 2019 (TI9) – Five Important Betting Tips

5. Avoid the group stages

Unlike in other esports titles, the group stages in most Dota 2 tournaments, especially Minors and Majors, as well as The International, don’t really mean much in the grand scheme of things.

Most of the time, it’s only used for seeding to see who goes into the Upper Brackets and Lower Brackets. This means that there’s significantly less pressure for teams to perform, resulting in most teams using the group stages to seize each other up and experimenting with lineups that they’ve tried out in scrimmages.

This is especially true in the final day, when the seedings have already been decided and matches are a mere formality.

4. Look for bookmakers with special offers and bonuses

From deposit bonuses to free bets, as well as cash back incentives, among others, always consider working with a bookmaker that’s trustworthy and will help give you the most for your money. Check our TI9 Betting Offers to see the latest promotions created for this event.

3. Don’t rely on pre-TI performance to gauge a team’s strength

Once The International 2019 starts, all bets are off.

No one, and we mean, no one is guaranteed to win the entire thing. The combination of a relatively new meta, and teams having had months to prepare their own strategies, as well as there not being much time for teams to figure each other out, means that the favourites and underdogs all stand on equal ground once the matches begin.

In fact, the favourites are very risky bets at The International 2019.

Teams such as Team Secret and Vici Gaming have spent the better part of the 2018-19 Dota Pro Circuit winning tournaments, but that also means that they’ll be on every other team’s radar and everyone will be preparing to face off against them.

Remember, there’s a reason why the heavy favourites very rarely win a TI.

2. Be aware of the meta shifts

Every Dota 2 tournament has their own meta. Dota 2 international 3 start date The International is no exception.

Because teams have spent so much time preparing for the tournament, they each come with their own strategies, and eventually, they start copying or improving on what has worked for other teams over the span of a few days, resulting in a constantly evolving meta that’s as confusing and unpredictable as it is amazing to watch.

Often, the team who wins a TI is the one who dictates how the meta is going to shift.

For example, Alliance and their split-push strategy back in TI3 or Team Liquid’s lane dominance and sustain-focused lineups at TI7 or even OG’s clever use of buybacks to prolong games last year at TI8.

Being aware of these meta shifts can help you take note of teams who are better suited to playing a particular playstyle.

1. Take note of fatigue

Did you know that, of the past eight TI champions, only three times have the winners come from the lower brackets? And, in those three times, the winners either swept their opponents or dropped only one game in the grand finals?

This is significant.

Fatigue is a very real thing in any competitive sport. In Dota 2’s biggest annual tournament, even more so.

Because the structure of the tournament heavily punishes teams from the lower brackets by having them play back-to-back matches, it’s not unusual for players to feel drained and tired, especially if they just came from a hard-fought series in the lower bracket finals, which is often usually the case.

With a 5/8 winrate in the Grand Finals, it’s safe to say that whichever team makes it to the Grand Finals from the upper brackets is more likely to end up hoisting the Aegis of Champions at the end of the tournament.

Of course, the same logic applies to earlier matches. In particular, in the final two to three days of the tournament, where only a handful of evenly-matched teams are left and additional prep or rest time becomes much more crucial.

What Are Dota 2 Player Cards? A Noob Gu >

If you are a Dota 2 player who like to buy skins and spend money on the game. Then you definitely must have purchased The International Compendium, which releases every year. The Internation is the most exciting period of the year for the game as well as for fans. If you are a person who does not care about your Battle pass level, or you are satisfied with your Battle pass level then you might want to stop right here and close the browser tab. I’m just kidding, you can read this if you like. I will write about the details of the Dota 2 Player Cards which are a part of The International 2018 Compendium. Bear with me with the long article.

Dota 2 Player Cards A Brief Introduction

Dota 2 Player Cards were introduced in The International 2014 Compendium. Initially, the card pack contained 10 random player cards of the teams competing in The International 2014. Cards could be collected to earn points for. Collecting all cards for any given team will reward certain for that team. I will tell you what points though.

Through the years the player cards were changed and now since the release of The International 2018 Compendium each Battle pass owner is awarded players cards. Instead of 10 like in TI4 Compendium, you are given 5 random cards of the 18 total team competing in The International 2018.

Dota 2 Player Cards Details

Now let me tell you in detail what these points are and how can you gain maximum points out of the player cards. If you have not opened a single pack first open these. You can open the player cards in the Compendium tab of Battle pass. Click the Battle pass tab on the main screen of Dota 2.

After that click Player Cards and by the way the prize pool is huge!

Then, you have to open the Player Cards if you have premium pack open that too. I have already opened mine so, don’t mind it.

After that, you have to look at the duplicates. Normal player cards pack will have 4 green cards and 1 rare silver or gold card. Premium player card pack, however, contains the rare Notice that there are 3 types of cards, Green, Silver, and Gold.

You have to prioritize golden cards, then comes silver and then green.

After opening every pack now you have to look for recycles. If you have 2 or more similar green cards of the same player you can recycle any card you like. But if you got a golden or silver card of the same player you do not need the green card or cards.

Similarly, If you have a golden card of the same player. You can either keep it or recycle it depending upon the statistics the card has.

If you have duplicates of a core player. Then you have to look at the statistics of the card. Like here is a silver card of Xxs who is a core player for Invictus Gaming. Now looking at the card it has GPM (Gold Per Minute), Obs Wards Planted and Camps stacked. Since he is a core player so the Obs. Wards Planted and Camps Stacked is useless. If I have other cards which have good statistics like, GPM, Creep Score, Kills etc I would keep that card and recycle this silver card. Do you get my point?

You have to see the same things for Golden cards.

Things To Look For A Core Player Card

You basically want the following things in the statistics for a core player. If you are missing most of the things in the below list then you do not need that card at all. Recycle that!

  • GPM (Best for Mid or position 2 players)
  • Creep Score [or Last Hits. Both are same things] (Best for position 1 player)
  • First Blood (Best for Position 1 players)
  • Deaths (Best for Position 1 players)
  • Kills (Best for Mid or position 2 players)
  • Team Fights (Best for Position 1 player)
  • Tower Kills (Best for position 3 players)
  • Roshan Kills (Best for position 1 players)

If you have most of the above things in the stats of your card keep it. It will bring you a lot of points

Things To Look For A Support Player Card

Similarly, for a support player, you want to have these stats in your cards

  • Team Fights (Best for position 4 players)
  • Obs. Wards Planted (Best for position 5 players)
  • Runes Grabbed (Best fo position 4 players)

1 more thing to keep in mind that the percentage right beside the statistics. If you have mixed statistics for any player then you have to look for the percentages if they have percentages lower than other stats like for a core card if it has a high percentage of runes grabbed than creep score then the card is pretty much useless.

You might be wondering why do I am focusing too much on recycling. Yes, a good question indeed. Well,

Recycling will help you gather dusts.

  • 10 card dusts can be exchanged for another card pack.
  • 30 card dusts can be exchanged for a specific player card.
  • Duplicate cards can be recycled for 1 – 5 card dusts each, depending on rarity.
    • Green card – 1 dust
    • Silver card – 2 dusts
    • Gold card – 5 dusts

Rewards Of Using Player Cards

Collecting all cards for a specific team will unlock a custom teleport effect based on that team’s logo. Collecting all silver and gold cards will unlock upgraded teleport effects. And you can use sprays of your favorite team. Favorite team is basically having cards of all players.

As you can see the sprays and other cool stuff regarding Favorite Team.

How To Use Player Cards For Maximum Fantasy Points?

The main use of player cards is to get fantasy points by setting a fantasy roster. Fantasy Team is a feature that lets players create their own team of professional players within Dota 2 Batlle pass, and compete with other players in the league based on points earned by their team. Points are earned whenever a professional player participates in any Tournament match.

In short, you have to use your best card in a fantasy Dota 2 roster which will earn you points depending on the performance of the player earning you points.

The group stage will start in about a week and the schedule will be available 1 or 2 days before the group stage.

Now the most important thing to look for is that you have to see the schedule and look for the matches of the team whose cards you have. You have to select different cards for cores and supports. You will have to choose the best players or the players who stood out the most in the cards that you have. For example Liquid. Miracle – for core etcetera. Dota 2 international player cards for advanced You know that these players will perform good no matter what this will get you the points. Of course, golden cards will give you the most of the points.

You have to set your fantasy roster every day until finals. After that, if you manage to get some good points you will get free Battle Pass levels and that concludes my guide for maximum points.

If you have any question or anything you didn’t understand in the above guide feel free to let me know in the comments.
