The three-day event laid out why competitive gaming is in the future of entertainment, though the contest wasn’t without its flaws.
Despite being a huge fan of esports, and Dota 2 in particular, I’ve never actually sat down at an esports competition from beginning to end. I’m a journalist. I usually have a job to do: Running about, doing interviews and meeting executives to hear them talk about the future of competitive gaming.
Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game that pits two teams of five against each other. The aim of the game is not to kill the other team’s heroes, of which there are 115 to pick from, all with different skill sets, but to destroy the enemy’s main building. And with each hero sporting their own unique abilities, the game can often be confusing and chaotic for a new viewer. But I digress. Where were we?
Oh yes. The future of esports. I’m always talking about the futureof esports.
This time, however, I committed to the present. At this year’s first competitive Dota 2 Major tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I found myself sitting down. Enjoying the experience. Instead of, you know, doing work.
Casters and analysts of the Dota 2 Major were celebrities in their own right.
And it was then that I realised what I’ve been missing out the entire time I’ve been covering esports: The event itself. The exhilarating atmosphere that you’d only experience by sitting with a massive crowd and cheering for your favorite team. The present.
I’ve watched Dota 2 tournaments from home on my comfortable couch, with my two cats beside me, whooping as my team kicked butt. I found myself wondering if I had wasted time and money flying up from Singapore, unable to go through with my planned interviews.

But it was a lower-bracket game, a battle between two hot favorites, Evil Geniuses and Ninjas in Pyjamas, that had the crowd unified in excitement. Regional Southeast Asia teams had been eliminated, so with no local team to root for the crowd took the initiative and cheered everything. Every single play, every kill. They drowned the Axiata Arena in wild hoots of excitement. Watch the clip to hear just how hyped up the crowd was.
I sat up, fists pumping and screaming with the crowd as one team’s plays cancelled out the other team’s lead. Even though the in-game AI predicted a 97 percent win probability for NIP, things quickly turned around and EG took the lead.
Soon we were set for a third game. A toilet break and dinner beckoned, but no one wanted to give up their seats to the touch-and-go match. And go it went. NIP made yet another play, resetting the game. The crowd screamed as the tables were turned.
It ended in a loss for NIP in game three. The team was eliminated from the tournament but fans were satisfied, calling it the best series so far. And that was even before the grand finals were due to be played on the last day.

With Russian team Virtus. pro beating Evil Geniuses in the semifinals, the crowd picked Team Secret by default to root for in the grand finals, as it featured star Malaysian player Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng. But Virtus. pro drew plenty of cheers for some amazing plays as well.
I was sitting next to a Malaysian blogger, who’d brought her husband along. She told me they had met through Dota, and that while she was rooting for Virtus. pro, her husband was cheering for Secret.
She laughed at her husband as Virtus. pro drew first blood, taking the first game. Her husband teased her as Secret took the lead, winning games two and three. With Virtus. pro winning game four in style, I jokingly told her the losing supporter had to sleep on the couch tonight — she told me he’d be sleeping there anyway.
Virtus. pro fought off Secret in style, clinching the top spot in a nail-biting match, and my newfound friend couldn’t be happier. And it’s memories like this that I found myself taking away from the event.

It was exactly the same atmosphere as you’d find at any other sporting event: Some crowd members glowed with delight, others were disappointed. People discussed the players’ mistakes as we streamed out of the arena. This script will help you play Invoker in Dota 2, it will invoke a certain spell with 1 key instead of doing the combination Each spell takes 1 second to invoke and also i used the key’s alt and alt + x to invoke the spells, the script is fairly simple so if anyone wants to change the key’s or timing it should be really easy

Here’s a script i made for invoker + dota but first what u need to add to your config. cfg Edit: It’s much better to make the game do QWE for you because it will do it on 0.09 delay each orb so its basically instantaneous.
More you can add to your config. cfg for comfort (use F1-F4 to level up QWER)
And heres the beast code ofc it takes some memory (mental) power to work it but it works great
Edit: Probably best to check out what your priority spells would be and put them up accordingly. of course depends if you play mainly exort quas or other forms

It’s quite simple, this one does it instantaneously so you get 37.5 hp/s when you use it
I use 1-6 as inventory items, 1 armlet and 2 for treads, then first side button of mouse to activate it.
It’s also set so that you can keep your boots in strength at all times (it needs to be in strength to work)
Changes to Agility,
Turns on Armlet
Changes to Strength,
Turns off Armlet
2 second cooldown on armlet on/off
so u get 37.5 hp/s with this

in the. cfg file you add numpad_x (KP_x) to do a certain action for you (QQQ) etc. and yes you need to press R yourself, its made in that way. its a way to have 10 spells on 1 or 2 buttons.

Each player will be placed into a bracket without any official seeding and play a best of 3 one vs. one mid only mirror match up, meaning that both players will play the same hero and are restricted to play in the middle lane only. The winner is the player who first gets two kills or destroys two towers.
The side, Radiant or Dire will be decided with a coin toss and winning player gets to chose sides and then alternate. The heroes of the first two rounds are decided with a draft and if a third and final game is needed, Shadow Fiend will be the default hero.
Drafting [ edit ]
To decide what hero is to be played both players pick two heroes, ranking them one and two. If the players pick four different heroes the highest ranked hero of each player will be played. If only one hero is the same, the ones that are not the same are used. Shadow Fiend is not draftable since he is reserved for an eventual game 3.

Before the tournament Valve released a compendium in the Dota 2 shop, the owners of these compendiums got to vote for the players that are to participate in the tournament.
Leviathan, the Tidehunter, is a melee strength hero who is formidable due to his uncommonly tough hide and his ocean spells that sweep enemies upward. He can be played as a support or as an offlane hero whose greatest strengths lie in being able to take heavy amounts of damage in the early game and the disabling powers of his spells.
Though he does not deal especially high damage at any point in the game, his spells can have a devastating effect on the enemy without expending much mana. Gush first applies the debuff, then the damage.
When upgraded, Gush releases a big wave, instead of a single target projectile. The wave always travels its full distance.
When targeting a unit, the wave is released towards its direction on cast. However, it does not home in on the target.
The wave travels at a speed of 1500 instead of 2500 like the non-upgraded projectile, taking 1.47 seconds to travel the full distance.
The wave can hit units up to 2460 range away (travel distance + radius).
The wave fully affects invisible enemies and enemies inside the Fog of War.
Provides 200 radius ground vision around each hit enemy for 2 seconds.
The wave does not provide any vision.
The second sound is used by the wave.
Damage block stacks with passive melee damage block.

A debuff removal proc is indicated by a sound effect and water particles on Tidehunter’s skin.
The tentacles travel at a speed of 725.
Hit units are knocked up 350 range for the initial 0.5 seconds of the stun.
While in the air, other units may pass below hit airborne units.
The damage is applied upon landing, not upon getting hit.
Ravage’s effect is caused by a 250 units wide ring, which expands around the cast location at the given speed.
This means units within 250 radius upon cast are hit instantly.
The ring takes exactly 1.38 seconds to cover the remaining distance.
It also means that it is possible to evade the effects by blinking inside the expanding ring shortly after cast.

The first time YaphetS came into public attention is the time his replays are continuously uploaded in sGamer. com, which received comments on being self-hyped. YaphetS himself had arguments on the forum causing him to be publicly disliked. [4] In February 2008’s CDL tournament, YaphetS and his team Sison competed and won the first match. In an interview by sGamer. com he stated that “I want to say that our plans is to not play just within China, i think we will flourish internationally.” This was regarded as overly arrogant by the community due to the team’s less than ideal results. The team soon disbanded afterwards.

September 2009 in a WCG regional qualifier, Yaphets performed brilliantly, and caught attention of several teams. Less than a month later, Yaphets joins professional team cYc [6] , and the team was able to challenge top teams such as EHOME and CH at that time. Crystal Maiden is an efficient support who specializes in slowing enemies. Her highly valued Arcane Aura increases mana regeneration for all her teammates, while she remains effective throughout the game with very little items. In large fights, she can channel a Freezing Field to obliterate enemies over a w >Frostbite to target individuals. However, Crystal Maiden is quite fragile even compared to other supports, and is one of the slowest heroes in the game.

Crystal Ma >Invoker for the second-lowest base movement speed in the game. Due to her strong disable potential, she can most effectively mitigate this and by building mobility items that give her a measure of escape, since it doubles to give her initiation potential.

Crystal Nova is a large area of effect nuke that also slows enemies’ movement and attack speed.
Use Crystal Nova to harass enemies out of lane. The movement and attack speed slows should prevent the enemies from fighting back with attacks.
Crystal Nova’s long cast range and w >Frostbite [ edit ]
Frostbite roots the target enemy while also disarming them and dealing damage over time.
Frostbite can be a strong disable due to its ability to instantly immobilize an enemy. While it does not prevent enemies from casting spells, it can inhibit teleport abilities, as well as Charge of Darkness and Phase Shift . Depending on the enemy lineup, maxing out Frostbite first can give Crystal Ma >Arcane Aura [ edit ]
Arcane Aura prov >Arcane Boots on all teammates globally whenever it is off cooldown, which allows all allied heroes, especially those with small mana pools, to cast spells much more frequently.
It is wise to get at least one level of Arcane Aura in the early game. As Crystal Ma >Freezing Field [ edit ]
Freezing Field is a channeled spell that summons a blizzard around Crystal Ma >Ravage or Black Hole , Freezing Field should be used in tandem with their mass disable. Using Freezing Field very often results in Crystal Ma >Items [ edit ]
Tango prov >Healing Salve also restores health to Crystal Ma >Clarity is a useful purchase due to Crystal Ma >Animal Courier ferries items to allies.
Observer Ward s should be purchased regularly and placed at key areas around the map. As a support, giving your team map vision is critical to victory.
Magic Wand is very useful on Crystal Ma >Boots of Speed are a crucial early purchase on Crystal Ma >Wind Lace also gives movement speed boost for cheap, and builds into various items.
Town Portal Scroll should be carried on Crystal Maiden as her disables can turn ganks around.
Tranquil Boots are the cheapest upgradable boots available, and allow Crystal Ma >Glimmer Cape can be a useful item to purchase if you intend on making use of Freezing Field regularly, and is otherwise a good support item. Casting the active on yourself prior to jumping in with your ultimate can give you a little extra time to channel it, allowing you to deal more damage. In other situations, it can give you or an ally the ability to stealthily initiate on targets you have vision on, or can be used as an escape or survivability tool by granting someone on your team invisibility and greatly increased magic resistance.
Blink Dagger augments Crystal Maiden’s mobility, allowing her to instantly jump within range for locking down enemy heroes with her disables. The improved mobility also allows her to move around the map more easily to support her teammates, or escape pursuing enemies.
Eul’s Scepter of Divinity grants Crystal Ma >Force Staff is a good cheap support item to build on Crystal Ma >Black King Bar is an expensive luxury item that should be considered only if given farm priority and all other support duties have been met. It prevents interruptions to her ultimate, as well as increasing the size of Crystal Maiden’s health pool.
Ghost Scepter gives survivability against attacking carries by granting Crystal Ma >Urn of Shadows is a good utility item for a roaming Crystal Ma >Drum of Endurance gives Crystal Ma >Veil of Discord is a cheap utility item that gives Crystal Ma >Aether Lens is a strong caster item that greatly improves Crystal Ma >Meteor Hammer can be used as an extra means of disabling enemies when combined with Frostbite. It prov >Aghanim’s Scepter can give Crystal Ma >Scythe of Vyse is a very expensive support item, however it gives a very reliable ranged hard-disable, a larger mana pool and some more HP, and a powerful mana regeneration boost.

As a regular Dota 2 player, you’re probably up to date with what skins are, what they are used for, and what they can do during the game. But if you are just getting started with Dota 2, or you simply want to find out more about Dota 2 skins, then this article is definitely for you.
Items versus Skins
Just like Counter Strike, Team Fortress, or Warframe, you can also purchase items and skins for Dota 2.
There are 2 types of items: cosmetic items and power boosting items. Skins are part of the first category, as they have a purely visually enhancing role; skins do not affect the abilities and powers of Heroes.

What are power boosting items? They give Heroes enhanced abilities and functions so they can perform better during a battle. Power/Ability enhancing items are not tied to a particular Hero, therefore you must pay increased attention when choosing your items. Some items won’t work on some Heroes, while other items can be combined for improved results. In short, these items provide additional benefits to Heroes that the leveling up process cannot.
Tip: A Hero can have a maximum of 6 items in his Inventory, and a maximum of 6 items in his Stash. If you get more items, they will be automatically dropped in the fountain.
Dota 2 Skins You Can’t Miss
There are a lot of skins to choose from in Dota 2. This is part of the game’s charm, and a lot of players go above and beyond to personalize their Dota 2 experience. Skins don’t interfere with the mechanics of the game, they are purely decorative.
Did you know? You can buy user-created skins in the Steam Workshop. They are only put out for sale if they have been approved by Valve.
1. Equipment Skins
This skins type is used to change the way a Hero looks, from their clothes to the way their weapons are designed. While these skins do not alter the Heroes’ powers, they can definitely give your hero a fiercer look.

2. Couriers
As the name suggests, the Couriers are items that take the form of a donkey / flying donkey. Their main responsibility is to carry your items to and from your base. Animal Couriers and Flying Couriers are considered Consumable Items.
You can also customize your courier in the loadout screen. You can equip the Couriers with specific visual elements. Once again, these elements do not influence the way the Courier performs. However, there are some Unusual Couriers which come with a special effect. The effect can be either Ethereal Gem or Prismatic Gem.
Custom Couriers are classified in 5 categories: Rare, Mythical, Legendary, Immortal, Ancient.

3. Announcers
This collection of cosmetic items is a bit different, because it does not change the way a Hero or a player looks. What it does is it changes the voice of the Announcer with explosive commentaries, unruly humor, or a drunken Pirate Captain. There are a lot of Announcers items to choose from – can you decide which voice is your favourite?
4. Custom Wards
Are you getting bored with the way your wards look? With Custom Wards you can change the appearance of your Observer Wards and Sentry Wards.
Did you know? Items such as skins are the main source of income for Dota2. Creators selling their items on the Steam Market receive a percentage of sales. In 2013 the income for an average contributor was $15k per year.
5. HUD Skins
This skins category is a bit special, as it allows you to change how the heads up display looks. What’s even better about this skins category is that it can be equipped by other players in the same match.

Skin Categories: Rarity & Quality
Items and skins in Dota2 are usually categorized into Rarity. The rarer the item, the more valuable it is. Some players spend a lot of money on their items; there are even Dota 2 skins that cost a big-ticket. Depending on their rarity, items are classified as:

This is one great drawback of the Steam Market system, because the money you earn stays on the website, whether you are an Items Creator or an Items Buyer.

The video settings and launch options of Dota 2 can be optimized to increase your FPS and improve your gameplay.
On the web, you can find several configuration files to replace yours and boost the fps. Honestly, I don’t like this approach because I want to know exactly what I am changing, so I decided to review all the options in this article.
These adjustments are useful if you are struggling to reach an acceptable amount of fps as you are using a low-spec PC, but also if you have a monitor with a high refresh-rate as you bought it to gain an edge in a competitive game such as Dota 2.
In-game settings
Launch Dota 2, click the Settings icon on the top left, and open the Video tab. I will show you how to set up each option for maximum performance.
Resolution
Use my monitor’s current resolution: off.
I suggest using the advanced settings, but in some cases this option is helpful to solve bugs.
For example, I am currently using a 34 inches ultrawide monitor: the game doesn’t offer a 21:9 aspect ratio in the advanced settings, and my display resolution isn’t listed either.
In order to play Dota 2 with my monitor, I must select “Use my monitor’s current resolution” and also indicate my exact resolution (2560×1080) in the launch options with the following command: -w 2560 – h 1080.
Note: I didn’t have this issue in the past as my monitor resolution appeared correctly under “Size”.
Use advanced settings: on.
Aspect Ratio: use your native one.
It depends on your display, but nowadays the great majority of the monitors have a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Size: use your native resolution.
Using your native resolution is desirable for a better view, but if you badly need a performance boost, decreasing the resolution will greatly improve your fps. 720p is usually a solid compromise between quality and performance.
Display Mode: Full Screen.
Full Screen is the best choice performance-wise, but you might prefer Borderless Window if you have a multi-monitor setup and you wish to move quickly on another display.
Note: you can switch from Full Screen to Borderless Window by pressing Alt+Enter on the keyboard.
Options
Rendering API: DX11.
The available options are DX9, DX11, Vulkan, and OpenGL.
DX11 provides the best performance on most modern systems, but I recommend trying also DX9 on yours as the results may be different.
Vulkan is only slightly behind DX11. I believe this API might become the superior choice in the future as Valve drastically improved it in the past years.
OpenGL is the worst option. Do not use it.
Rendering
Use basic settings: off.
This slider is the simplest solution to tune down the graphic if you don’t know what are you doing, but I prefer selecting individually each option.
