Players, be prepared to earn your ranks, as Dota 2 has released the new Ranked “medal” system into its game client. Now, instead of relying on a numerical value, players will earn “medals” as they climb higher in Ranked matchmaking.

While medals will change with performance, there’s nowhere to go but up. According to the game client, “The peak of your skill this season is displayed by a rank medal. [. ] Medals are a reflection of the highest rank you’ve earned.” This means if you peaked at Tier 4 but now play at a Tier 3 level, the Tier 4 medal will display on your profile.

The medal rankings are as follows, in ascending order:

These are also split into five “stars” to indicate progress through the medals. Each player’s medals will be displayed before and during each game.

Players aiming for higher medals will need to work on their solo queue skills. According to an official blog released along with the update, performance in solo queue is the only way the Ancient and Divine medals will be considered.

Those aiming higher will also be rewarded more easily. All Five-Star Divine players will be automatically included in the Leaderboards, and each will be given a number indicating their rank among such players. These will be displayed on profiles, as well as in-game like any other medal.

The blog states the MMR system is maintained in six-month “seasons,” and MMR is re-calibrated at the start of each season, with initial matching based on prior performance. At the end of the season, the medals are “retired” and displayed on a player’s profile through the next season.

It appears, meanwhile, that the numerical MMR system has vanished from the client, including player profiles. However, players will maintain a private MMR that can be found in their personal stats page on their profile.

The old system, based on number credits alone, was in effect for nearly four years, since December 2013. This new MMR system was announced when the Dueling Fates update dropped, though the timeline given for its release was much shorter—two weeks—compared to its actual three-week timeline.

A seasonal MMR system has been requested for a while, though the medal system came as a surprise to many. It now parallels games such as Valve sister game Counter-Strike: Global Offense, RTS classic Starcraft and MOBA rival League of Legends.

So I know the community is wildy against a gg wp button.
But why? I have been in to many games were I knew I was gonna lose and the other just stomps you, and the other team just doesnt finish the game.

So much time wasted in a match that you couldn’t win and made me rage quit. I would really like a vote to surrender button, just to make the game a little more enjoyable, probably a lot less people abandoning as well.

Even if it required everyone to agree to it for it to pass it would lead to more people giving up early and not trying. In Dota comebacks are possible from even extreme disadvantages so people going ”gg which should just surrender” really hurts the game as comebacks are very possible and one of the more fun aspects of the game.

Also there is satisfaction in breaking the enemy base and winning the teamfight that wins the game fo your team but if people are gg’ing too soon you lose out on that too.

Many pro teams won macthes from same scenerios and they explained many times why dota shouldnt have this give up button.

Could always just disconnect, it legit helps your team more than just not trying.

This 1000000 times. Don’t spam GGwP at 11 minutes into the game after a few poor choices. Just leave if you really want to give up and give the team a chance.

Other team has T3 towers up and megas, we came back and won, I was Lone Druid. After being on both sides of comebacks, I say “No Disconnect button”.

Many pro teams won macthes from same scenerios and they explained many times why dota shouldnt have this give up button.

Funny part here is, that pros are the only ones who have the option in their tournaments.
The surrender button is only needed in situations when the superior team is refusing to take the ancients and end the game in time. As long as Dota2 allows for these dishonorable situations the demand for the surrender option will persist.

thats wrong you are allowed to give up in lobbys and battle cub just like the pros the pros also cant surrender in a normal match

and ppl will always demand staff and complain about things but does not mean what they want is a good thing since most of them cant see the whole pic of what they reqoust

You can’t prevent people from throwing a hopeless game (in their eyes) in not offering the option. They just go afk or ward their fountain or something. Why don’t give a team the chance to shorten up a game they think they cannot win anymore. I’ve seen it in high ranked games “we are afk, please end”. Why not have an official solution for that? I would give it a try.

but if theres a surrender button ppl will ask to surrender as soon as they see the losing sight and if their team refuse they will start feeding so their team mates surrender

i rarly see ppl feed now (not saying it does not happen) and can sometimes save the day and stop the player from feeding but if theres a surrender button then good luck finding a proper match with out one of the players start feeding for a surrender in mid game

Heroes of Newerth actually has this function and from what i recall it was never abused, it was only used when there was noway for a comback and i think there was a timer on when it could be used and it required a vote of the conceding team of 3/5 or 4/5 i think to pass the concede/surrender. And the pros for this is are games with a feeder in team, the enemy team won’t finish the game when they’ve practicly won already. The con is that if there’s a party that easily can get the majority of the vote when it’s not necessary.

Yes there’s are opportunities for comback but when there isn’t way drag it out? Just waste of time. And what i’ve seen in games is that for the argument that ppl will use such a feature as soon there’s sight of losing that happens already that ppl just stay in base spamming “FF” and with a democratic vote the risks for this is lower if not as i mentioned there’s a party in the team.

I find it funny that people are saying “comebacks are real.”

Yeah, they’re real, if all five players are playing their hardest until their throne. You people don’t account for 90% of matches where players give up prematurely.

New Season, New Teams – A Preview Of New Teams Formed

The recent Dota season ended with 5 players winning The International 2019 and everyone else searching for answers about how they’re going to win The International 2020. The post TI shuffle is one of the most exciting times in Dota with new players joining forces and old teammates becoming rivals. Here is a look at five new teams formed for the up coming Dota Pro Circuit season.

Team Aster

Team Aster is a Chinese organization founded by Chinese Dota legend iG. BurNIng . They’ve recruited: Aster. Sccc , Aster. ChYuan , Aster. Xxs , Aster. Boboka and Aster. Fade for their team for the upcoming season.

Sccc was the star of Newbee during their 2nd place TI7 run. Since then he has been missing in action from Dota Pro Circuit events as his Newbee squad was unable to qualify for major tournaments.

ChYuan is a 19 year old mid player from Malaysia with approximately $10,000 in earnings. It’s not uncommon for young core players to burst onto the scene and make themselves a household name, ChYuan and Team Aster hopes this happens to them.

Xxs and Boboka were a part of INVICTUS GAMING the last time they played well at major tournaments. Boboka was the stand out star of IG especially on his position 4 Monkey King and Riki.

Fade was arguably the breakout star of all players in the last year. He won two Major tournaments last season with Vici Gaming who were one of the favorites to win it all at TI9.

We predict Team Aster to be able to qualify for at least two DPC events, if not Majors than Minors. With star power in Sccc and Fade, and young and hungry players in the other three members, Team Aster should be able to best the other top Chinese teams in at least two qualifiers.

TEAM ORACLE

Team Oracle is an Australian esports organization formed in 2019 with some competitive appearances this year.

They’ve managed to recruit: QO , No7 , Monster , Destrice , and lordboonz for their team this season.

QO is their most notable player with his run on MVP. Phoenix where the team upset OG at The International 2016. Since then he has disappeared from the professional scene and took an extended break in 2018. Now he’s back with Team Oracle.

No7, Monster, and Destrice do not have Liquipedia profiles so that should be enough analysis for them. No7 is from Cambodia, Monster is from the United States, and Destrice is from Malaysia. Dota 2 tournament new map of america

Lordboonz is an Australian player with a Liquipedia page and has approximately $440 in earnings.

We would be very surprised and impressed if this team manages to beat out other Southeast Asian teams to make it to a major tournament. We predict this team will lose most qualifiers and at best play in a few minor tournaments.

LOWKEY ESPORTS

Lowkey Esports is an American organization with teams in Pubg, Rocket League, Fortnite and other esports.

They picked up an all Phillopino stack – Skadilicious , Yowe, TNC. Sam H , Luzify, and CG. FLYSOLO .

Sam H is their most well known player. He was the offlaner for TNC Predator for many years, playing in TI6, TI7, and TI8 with them.

Skadilicious is a carry player with approximately $4200 in earnings. He began his Dota 2 career in 2018 with Neon Esports.

Yowe is an 18 year old mid player with no earnings and little experience in competitive Dota. Dota 2 tournament new map of america

Luzify is their 4 position and he doesn’t have a Liquipedia profile.

Flysolo is their 5 and captain. He has a long history in Dota 2 going back to 2015 but his total approximate earnings are $8,999.

If this team manages to win a qualifier over other Southeast Asian teams we will be impressed. We think this team has the potential to upset other top teams in the Southeast Asia region but whether or not that will happen is unknown.

EternalEnvy Stack

The Asian Americans have formed their own stack under the leadership of EternalEnvy.

There is no team name or sponsors but this stack consists of Pandas. EternaLEnVy , Pandas. Bryle , Pandas. MoonMeander , Pandas. Sneyking , and Pandas. Aui_2000 .

EternalEnvy is no stranger to forming his own stack to play Dota in his own vision. He created Team NP with his own funding, a team that had decent results. Now he’s forming a new team once again with what looks like his best stack to date.

Bryle is a Canadian m > J. Storm . He has a lifetime earning of approximately $24,500.

MoonMeander is a high skill offlane player who had tremendous success in the pro scene in the past. He played for the green OG team and won 2 majors and a few other tournaments with them. He has bounced around teams ever since getting kicked from OG and has been unable to recreate his success with OG.

SneyKing is an American offlane/support player who has been very active in major tournaments in the past two years. He has played in The International 2018 and 2019 with VGJ Storm and Newbee. He also won GESC Thailand in 2018 with VGJ. Storm and placed 2nd at MDL Changsta Major, losing to PSG. LGD .

Aui_2000 is a TI5 champion with Evil Geniuses . Since then he has not achieved much success as a pro player and has been coaching the North American Newbee for the past two years. He has decided to become a player once again and hopes to follow the footsteps of Ceb and become a coach turned player who wins a TI (again).

We think this team has the potential to beat any team in North America. Dota 2 tournament new map of america With Evil Geniuses and Newbee changing their roster, North America is wide open. We wouldn’t be surprised if this team sticks together after qualifying to some major and minor tournaments.

Evil Geniuses

It is weird to think about Evil Geniuses without Suma1L , but the new roster is built around EG. Arteezy instead, with EG. Ramzes666 in the offlane replacing s4 . EG. Abed will take over the mid, while both Cr1t and Fly will keep their current positions.

There are several things worth noting in this new roster. First of all, we will finally get some sort of an answer about whether the RTZ and Sumail duo was too greedy. Both Sumail and Abed are top tier mids that can fulfill both the main carry and the tempo-core roles really well, but Abed definitely skews towards the latter more. In theory this should allow Arteezy to have a better time in his games and fully get into superhuman efficiency mode.

Secondly, while Ramzes is frequently thought of as that incredible, mechanically gifted super-carry, few know that for the last season he was also frequently the drafter and sometimes the de facto in-game coordinator of Virtus. Pro. Perhaps he will fill the very necessary role of introducing fresh ideas to the team and convincing veterans such as Fly and Bulba to experiment and take risks more frequently. Moreover, the third position is a little bit less intense, so Ramzes could take over some in-game coordination as well.

Finally, the departure of Sumail doesn’t necessarily mean he is out of the scene and perhaps separating the region’s strongest talent will allow the NA competitive Dota to flourish. Last DPC season was hardly a success for the region as a whole and despite decent TI9 results, some sort of fundamental change was needed. Hopefully, if there are three NA Major qualifier slots this year, they will be more deserved than last year.

Deleting Crash Dump Files

Dota 2 Crashes a lot, and ping spikes can be a reason. However, we are not talking about game crashes over here, hopefully, will do in another guide. But, there is something you can do to clean up some space and make room for Dota 2 to run more efficiently. Every time the game crashes, it creates a dump file in the Dota 2 folder. Each file can be more than 40MB in space and can take up a lot of your hard drive. Delete all of the files named having “.mdmp” extension in the following location;

People generally install their games in the default C Drive. We do not advise you to that and in turn, recommend you to install all of your games on drives other than C Drive and leave it only for Windows.

Dealing With Antivirus

Antivirus though are good and help secure your computer from threats and attacks, are, however, also a problem for online gamers. This is because Antivirus keeps on running no matter what you are doing. Even when playing Dota 2 you would have to bear with your Antivirus running in the background. To make sure this does not cause ping spikes in Dota 2, turn of/ disable your Antivirus while playing.

In case you think it’s too risky for you, we recommend you to install Antivirus that has a gaming mode feature. This allows the antivirus to run on the lowest settings making an almost negligible effect on your computer’s performance. The best option we can recommend you is Avast Antivirus.

Graphic Settings

Not everyone has a GTX 980 installed on their computer. If you are one of those money bags then this step is not for you. However, if you are among the thousands of Dota 2 players that play the game on a medium end PC then setting the optimal video settings is a must. The general rule of thumb in this aspect is to always prioritize game performance over game graphics.

Firstly you must use the most appropriate resolution for the game. Dota 2 ping spikes in many cases can be due to your resolution being too high for your computer to handle. The points above were based over issues on the user end, if done right will help you in reducing Dota 2 ping spikes. However, if you have done all the things mentioned above and still having solved the problem then the problem is most probably on the network side. Below is an example of what Ping Spikes actually look like.

As evident from the picture, the sudden rise of response time is what results in ping spikes in Dota 2. This generally happens if there is too much load over the ISP or the route game data is taking towards the game server. We know that queue times have increased across the board recently, and the most significant factor contributing to this has been the stricter requirements that Ranked Roles imposes on the formation of matches. Prior to the introduction of Ranked Roles, the matchmaker had a wider pool of people to draw upon because of the few restrictions. In the past, when one or more players desired the same role, this conflict was resolved during the game itself, often with unpleasant results. This conflict is now resolved at queue time, but a price of this is that the matchmaker is often starved for players in the least-queued roles. The matchmaker must wait for players in the desired roles to enter the queue, or form sub-optimal matches with the players currently in queue to satisfy all role requirements. Usually the role most in demand by the matchmaker is Hard Support, but this is not always the case, and historically this has varied based on time of day, skill bracket, region, etc.

To address role imbalance more generally, today’s update introduces Fast Queue for Ranked matchmaking. Players in the Fast Queue are given priority by the matchmaker, and will find matches much more quickly. In order to earn games for Fast Queue, you must elect to play with all roles selected. Playing with all roles selected will also automatically place you in Fast Queue for free.

When playing solo with all roles selected, you will earn four more games for future use in the Fast Queue. When grouped as a party, players can also earn Fast Queue games if the party fulfills all roles between its players. Two-player parties earn 2 games each, three-player parties earn 1 game each. You can earn and store up to 60 Fast Queue games.

For example, if you are in a party of two where one player marks the three Core roles and the other marks the two Support roles, they will enter the Fast Queue for free, and will each be awarded two additional Fast Queue games. Parties of 5 will always enter the Fast Queue for free, but do not earn Fast Queue games. We’ve added new UI to make it easy to see to understand when you or your party is eligible for Fast Queue.

Our data clearly showed that players choosing roles without any additional constraints simply doesn’t result in enough role diversity for the matchmaking population to be healthy, negatively affecting both queue times and match quality. The motivation of the Fast Queue is to solve the “roll for mid” problem in a structured way that prevents in-game conflicts, while also providing enough role diversity to enable reasonable queue times.

Going forward, our immediate focus will be validating that Fast Queue is doing enough to improve health of the matchmaking pool, and tweaking as necessary. We’ll also be rolling out a small incremental update to the behavior and report system in the coming weeks. As always, please continue to give us feedback.
