Every League of Legends Worlds song ranked

How would you rank these songs?

The 2019 League of Legends World Championship song “Phoenix” was released earlier this week.

“Phoenix” is the sixth Worlds song to come out, and within two days, it’s accumulated over 7.2 million views on YouTube. Additionally, it’s the first song to feature a previous Worlds artist—Chrissy Costanza was featured in the 2017 song “Legends Never Die.”

In honor of the release of “Phoenix,” we’ve decided to rank every Worlds song. Riot Games has published a Worlds anthem and music video every year since 2014 to kick off the championship.

Since each song is released as a complete music video, the rankings have been based on the song and video combined. Additionally, this list will only feature the official Worlds music videos, so songs like “Pop Stars” won’t be included.

Here are our rankings of the best Worlds songs and music videos.

6. “Worlds Coll >

“Worlds Collide” is the quintessential sound of League of Legends. Created in 2015, this song set the stage for Riot’s future musical projects like “Bring Home the Glory” and “Awakened.” Driving strings, blaring brass, and a mix of synths combined with a bright female vocalist defines the style behind “Worlds Collide.”

Despite being ranked last on our list, “Worlds Collide” does have a powerful and addicting chorus. The biggest issue with the song is the video—or lack thereof. “Worlds Collide” is the only Worlds song that was created without a full music video. Instead, the official release video features a bright red crystal encapsulating mini versions of European landmarks. The crystal does rotate along with a few rocks, so it’s animated. But an animation loop isn’t enough to save “Worlds Collide” from a last-place finish on this list.

5. “Phoenix” (ft. Cailin Russo and Chrissy Costanza) 2019

“Phoenix” is the latest addition to the Worlds song catalog and was arguably the most highly-anticipated song of any year. “Phoenix” was expected to be released before the play-in stage but delays in production pushed it back by roughly two weeks. Amidst the suspense, the song alone leaves much to be desired, however.

“Phoenix” starts with a soft, shadowy intro, but as it continues, the lack of dimension quickly becomes apparent. The build into the chorus is almost non-existent and is overall uninspired, leaving a feeling of dissatisfaction. Moving between each verse and chorus iteration, it feels like we’re listening to the first minute over and over. Fans have criticized the YouTube version for dampening the quality of the song, but even when listening on Spotify or SoundCloud, the sentiment remains. The lyrics, however, paint a picture of rising above challenges, which is truly wholesome and relatable.

The saving grace for “Phoenix” is the beautifully-crafted video. The video itself rivals the top contenders. The animations are breathtaking and the crossover between real life and CGI is masterfully meshed together. The video and the song’s lyrics combine to create a cohesive story that emphasizes the struggles Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther, and Song “Rookie” Eui-jin must overcome during this year’s Worlds.

4. “Legends Never Die” (ft. Against The Current) 2017

Ranking “Legends Never Die” wasn’t easy. The song itself is amazing, but the video would be in last place if it weren’t for “Worlds Collide” not having one. The moments of serenity throughout “Legends Never Die” are paralleled with passionate crescendos leading into an explosive chorus. It’s constantly driven by heavy percussion, which helps build anticipation and keeps the song moving forward without feeling tired.

As for the video, it looked amazing stylistically. But it had practically nothing to do with Worlds. Instead of showcasing pros or fantasizing the idea of competing on the international stage, “Legends Never Die” told short stories of Ashe, Lee Sin, and Garen. The champions didn’t appear to be linked to any specific player or moment in League esports. either. Overall, the video felt disconnected from Worlds, which dampens the impact “Legends Never Die” has as a whole.

3. “Ignite” (ft. Zedd) 2016

“Ignite” goes in a completely different direction compared to every other Worlds song. The electronic beats are accompanied by an orchestral arrangement that helps distinguish “Ignite” as a Worlds song without sacrificing its individuality. The drops are incredibly catchy along with the simple, yet cheesy lyrics. Riot stepped out of its comfort zone for “Ignite” and it worked. The issue with “Ignite” as a song is that it can feel empty and less hyped during verses that are particularly quiet.

Additionally, the song’s bright electronic tones are complemented by its equally-bright video. The vivid animation and the level of style this video emits is unmatched. But the combination of the song and video isn’t as impressive as the top two contenders.

2. “Warriors” (ft. Imagine Dragons) 2014

“Warriors” has withstood the test of time, despite being released in 2014 as the first Worlds song. The brooding undertones throughout “Warriors” highlight the significance of competing on the Worlds stage. The lyrics encapsulate the tireless journey of becoming a world champion while alluding to the League community that’s helped build the game into the spectacle it is today—a feat that arguably hasn’t been achieved in any other Worlds song. It’s also the only song that includes a guitar solo.

The video takes the lyrics to another level by visualizing the pain players feel after a loss and their desire to become better. Unlike other videos, “Warriors” uses generic players to tell a story rather than pros. Before the pros were competing on stage, they were playing games at home just like everyone else, which makes the approach that “Warriors” takes incredibly relatable.

The song and video are iconic, but “Warriors” also represents a crucial point in League history. When “Warriors” came out, esports was still relatively unknown outside of gaming circles. Having a mainstream group like Imagine Dragons collaborate with Riot helped validate League as a game and esport.

1. “RISE” (ft. The Glitch Mob, Mako, and The Word Alive) 2018

“RISE” is the culmination of four years worth of Worlds music videos. As a song, “RISE” checks every box. It has a satisfying build up, powerful chorus, and cheesy, but inspiring lyrics. “RISE” constantly takes us through its captivating chorus while making each iteration sound new and refreshed. And the eerily desolate bridge keep us waiting in anticipation for the hook to return.

The lyrics perfectly represent the spirit of Worlds and what it means to compete on the international stage. This is further emphasized when adding in the video. “RISE” retells Kang “Ambition” Chan-yong’s epic journey to becoming a world champion. Throughout the video, he’s met with challenge after challenge but continues pushing himself until proving that he’s a champion.

Furthermore, the song and video seamlessly mesh together. Moments of intensity are met with equally energetic visuals. Likewise, lulls in the song are met with serene landscapes. To top it off, everything in the video down to the wheat field is stunning.

“RISE” doesn’t necessarily break the mold for Worlds songs, but it takes ideas that Riot has used in previous years and perfects them. As a complete package, “RISE” comes in first because of the combination of its polished song and video.

Biography [ edit ]

Born in Lviv, Ukraine, Dendi got an early start with competitive gaming in net cafes when his elder brother married, moved out and took the family’s PC with him. Dabbling with Counter-Strike first, he soon found Warcraft 3 where he played in local tournaments and built a love for the competition and a thirst to be the best. Though he was quite successful in Warcraft 3 and even won a few local championships in Lviv, he knew he had found his calling when he stumbled upon DotA. He picked up the game quickly and played it almost exclusively over the next few months.

Beginning with learning only supports, he practiced heavily and was quickly vouched to the IHCS1 league and soon created his own team for tournaments in Lviv. After he led his team to a championship in Kiev, he was drafted by a team called “Wolker. Gaming” and began his professional career at 17.

DotA [ edit ]

Dendi started playing professionally with WG in 2006. [1] He was a part of the Ukrainian squad that finished third in MYM Prime Nations the same year. Only a few months later WG made it to the grand final of one of the most prestigious tournaments at the time; MYM Prime Defending. [2] When Kingsurf. international merged with WG the next year he became a full-time member of Ks. int. [1] In late 2008 he joined DTS, only to return to Ks. int in March 2009. [3] Three months later though, Dendi returned to DTS. [4] The team would end up finishing 2nd at ESWC 2010. At the end of 2010, Dendi and DTS finished 3rd at the prestigious WDC 2010. [5] Dendi joined Natus Vincere at the end of 2010. [6]

Dota 2 [ edit ]

Dendi started his Dota 2 career with Na’Vi, who quickly established themselves as one of the best teams in the world by winning The International 2011. Na’Vi continued to dominate and won many tournaments in the years 2011, 2012 and 2013. Dendi was the center of Na’Vi’s consistent stable and skilled rosters, with his performance greatly contributing to their success.

The Natus Vincere Dota 2 team achieved significant success with Dendi as their midlaner during the first few years of the game; they finished as the runners-up for both The International 2012 and The International 2013, losing out to Invictus Gaming and Alliance, respectively. 2013 would mark the last year of Na’Vi and Dendi’s dominance in the Dota 2 scene, as they only recorded two LAN victories since January 2014. The International 2014 saw Na’Vi and Dendi finishing the tournament outside of the top 2 for the first time and the following two Internationals, TI 5 and TI 6, they would finish in last place. The results would deteriorate further, as they would fail to even qualify for The International 2017, they failed to advance out of the group stage of the regional qualifiers. This marked the first year of The International tournaments without Dendi attending as a player. The 2017/18 season started of promising for Dendi and Na’Vi, who dominated the CIS scene in the early months, crowning their improving results with their second LAN victory since 2014. However, the second half of the season saw the roster break apart and finally the team would fail to even reach the regional qualifiers for The International 2018, after losing in the open qualifier.

Four years of roster instability and poor results finally took their toll on the reputation of the Na’Vi organization and on Dendi’s status as a legendary player and a top tier midlaner. After 8 years playing mid on Na’Vi, Dendi was finally removed from the active roster in September 2018. However, Dendi vowed to continue playing professionally. After a brief stint on Tigers, Dendi joined The Pango.

Dota 2’s The International 2019 Prize Pool Exceeds $30M

The International 2019’s prize pool now exceeds a record-breaking $30,000,000. (Image via @wykrhm / Twitter)

Dota 2’s claim on the single largest prize pool for an esports event is secured anew. The primarily crowdfunded prize money for The International 2019 ticked over the $30 million USD mark on July 21.

The International 2019 Prize Pool surpasses $30 Million USD. TI9 now has the LARGEST PRIZE POOL for any single tournament in the history of esports. #TI9 pic. twitter. com/YtRC2dt0uO

This new milestone is well beyond the $25,532,177 of The International 2018. It also ensures that TI9 will have more prize money than the next closest event, arguably Fortnite World Cup with a $30 million prize split across solo and duo competitions from July 26-28. Fortnite’s prize pool was put up entirely by Epic Games, while Valve has only contributed $1,600,000 to TI9’s pot.

Crowdfunding for the event centers around the Battle Pass, a compendium of rewards that unlock as players earn new levels, whether by acquiring points through in-game activities or, more likely, forking over money to buy them. Beyond the initial sales of the Battle Pass, there have been several boosts to encourage players to purchase new levels. These include the Summer Sale, which sold a two-times-only-per-player chunk of levels at a discounted price, the release of different sets of in-game hero cosmetics and, most recently, the release of a special cosmetic for Invoker that renders him as a child.

The International has always boosted life-changing money, and it’s the focal point of the entire Dota 2 professional scene. Players are typically only interested in securing their spots at this tournament each year, hence all the roster changes leading up to the qualifier period.

That said, there is a renewed call by the community for a sustainable scene during the rest of the year. See the thread below, tweeted by Beyond the Summit’s David “LD” Gorman.

30 million reasons for @dota2 fans to celebrate in August 2019

I just hope we have a reason to care again before August 2020

Gorman is certainly not the first person to remind us of the challenges of relying on Dota 2 for an income the fifty other weeks of the year. Only a sliver of the community benefits from TI. Sustainable incomes are in short supply for those who don’t get a huge payday from the competition.

Valve has released some details for the 2019-2020 Dota 2 Pro Circuit season, but these focused only around dates for Majors and Minors. There’s still time for Valve to establish a system that would benefit a larger portion of the hardworking individuals – players, talent and folks working behind-the-scenes – to ensure the scene stays healthy and vibrant for years to come.

Meanwhile, the Dota 2 community can once again celebrate their own generosity (or love of collecting in-game cosmetics) and the resulting record-breaking prize pool for The International 2019.

  • Processor: Dual core from Intel or AMD at 2.8 GHz
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: nVidia GeForce 8600/9600GT, ATI/AMD Radeon HD2600/3600
  • DirectX: Version 9.0c
  • Network: Broadband Internet Connection
  • Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible

Kebutuhan Framerate: Ternyata Tidak Cukup 30 FPS!

Benchmark DotA 2: Suatu Tantangan Tersendiri

Target: Bangun Sebuah PC Gaming Murah Untuk DotA 2!

Failed to create D3D Device

Whenever I boot up my computer and start Steam/Dota 2, the loading screen pops up then an error occurs.
“Failed to create D3D Device! Please see following URL for more info (https://support. steampowered. com/cgi-bin/steampowered. cfg/php/enduser/std_adp. php? p_faq >
I’ve managed to get Dota working a couple of times right after I start my computer at the start of the day and reinstall my graphics card drivers but it often doesn’t work, and doesn’t work if I regularly reboot.
Also, if I do get it to work and I quit Dota, then I can’t re-enter it because of the error.

Specs:
GPU: NVidia GeForce GTX560
CPU: Intel i5-2500K at 3.3GHz
8GB RAM at 1066MHz
Windows 7 Home Premium

I’ve tried verifying the game cache, which didn’t work. I’ve also tried reinstalling DirectX. Any help please?

EDIT: I have managed to get Dota working by using my motherboard graphics (Gigabyte Z68-UD3H-B3) although it’s on practically lowest settings.

Did you try the solution though? (disregarding your gpu being not in the list)

Yes, I tried setting the – dxlevel 81. Didn’t work.

I also tried setting – w 1920 and – h 1080, which also didn’t work.

I had it too. The only fix was to drop the quality settings inside dota and the windows control panel. It had nothing to do with start up parameters.

Although it’s not something certain, some friends think it might be a PSU issue not dealing enough or too much current to the GPU as it uses up more memory\power. Not sure what to believe, but when I have things on medium it doesn’t crash. Same problem with another game: Alan Wake. No fix for Alan Wake yet, though. The other games don’t crash.

The way I got it to work with Dota is using borderless 1440×900, no AA, no Specular, Water Qual is on, no fog, low shadows, anim portrait is on, no add light pass, world lighting is on, no ambient occ, medium textures, rendering is to the max and no ambient creatures. In Windows’ control panel I set it most options to application controlled (and some other useless options are either on or off depending on the case).

I’ll order a PSU next month and see if the problem goes away when it’s all maxed up.

Most of my other Steam games won’t start either due to some graphics errors (Saints Row 3, TF2, Bastion, L4D2).
But I’ve got a 750W PSU which should be more than enough. How’d you change the settings of Dota without getting in-game to change it?

Well my D2 starts. After a while I got graphical artifacts and the PC crashed. Either blue screen (once or twice) or just froze. When I was lucky I had the error and it quits to the desktop. Please not that if do get the error that it can’t create the D3D render device you need to restart the PC. No game will start after you get that error.

If you are getting artifacts, it is better to replace the card.

My problem was that Dota 2 would start but immediately stop due to the error. After I clicked ‘OK’, it would always just quit to desktop. Same goes for my other games. I don’t get any graphical artifacts at all.

However I did manage to fix my problem by connecting my monitor to the motherboard graphics and then turning off my computer for a while (going to sleep). When I woke up I reconnected the monitor to my graphics card, and everything was working again.

u cant not have it on primary with full screen, but fullscreen borderless window should be able to move it like it was any other application (for windows its win button + shift + arrow key in direction you want it to go). I move the game around my monitors on windows 8 doing that. One bug ive found though, if the taskbar isnt set to autohide itll cut a taskbar sized portion off the game when it moves, so set your taskbar to autohide and you should be good.

PERFECTION! Such a simple fix but works perfectly with every game including Dota thus far, thanks! (Borderless, the above, perfectly aligned like its a full-screen game on my second monitor which is not primary.)

win button + shift + arrow key

Mine isnt fully allign 😦

Question related to this topic:

I’m about to get a second monitor and i was wondering if i could set the second one to be just a blown up image of my main screen? I would do this to blow up the mini map part so i could actually see whats going on.

This isn’t breaking any kind of rules right? I don’t think it would.

Nice idea; maybe there is a better way or software for this but using what I know, I’m thinking the best way would be to use XSplit or FFsplit (broadcasting software) in combinaiton with DXtory (in some games using the broadcasting software with dxtory will mean little to no FPS loss, on my machine anyway). I’d full screen the broadcasting software, which is mirroring the monitor on the other screen (good method as build in gfx card method means resolutions on both screens must match).

The expanding the minimap part: in the broadcasting software you can set coordinates to lift a section of the screen rather than the full screen, just match the minimap coordinates and you should be good.

You can actually take multiple coordinates and in the broadcasting software set up players/sections blah blah blah, you could have a minimip as one half and something else as the other, pretty neat idea you came up with i must try it in some games see if it works sometime 😛

Sorry for the rushed reply 😛
