Introduction

Welcome to my second guide on DOTAFire. This time the guides main atraction will be Centaur Warchief. I may be not that good at the game, english is not my primary language(mistakes may be involved in the writting of this guide),but I hope you will be reasonable and accept.

Without further due, let’s get on with this gu >

Summary

He’s a tank with a dissable, that can take a lot of punishment but gets countered by N’aix and any other percentage based nukes.

Can gank good enough but needs a buddy to do so and gank properly. Post dagger its not problem.

Centaur Warchief-Who and what is he?

Centaur Warchief is a melee strength hero that can take a lot of punishment, can initiate by the way of his ultimate ability Stampede, initiate team fights with his AoE stun Hoof Stomp and lead early game ganks by the way of Double Edge .

He scales very well through the game and he is able to counter many right-click carries by the way of Return .

Pros and Cons

Pros: Scales well through the game
Has an AoE stun and a mini-stun that can be used to cancel teleports
Can take a lot of punishment
Can initiate, tank and survive even the longest teamfights
Naturally counters right click carries
Only one skill that requoires mana
Needs no steed

Cons: He’s slow
Very beefy but has natural counters that easily kill him( Lifestealer )

Melee
Hard to place stun
No innate escape mechanism
Awkward casting animation

Skill Analysis

Centaur hits the ground resulting in a 2.75 seconds of AoE stun. The mana cost is very low for an AoE stun move(130)and has a nice duration.

The cooldown in the skill is a tad long,13 seconds, however it has a 3 seconds duration so its actually a 10 seconds cooldown. The real problem with the skill is landing it because of the awkward animation and the skill being centered on Centaur Warchief.

A good nuke that deals 400 damage at level 4 but also damages our half-horse half-man here. Luckily we can get a Hood of Defiance to reduce the damage received and further boost our insane HP regeneration. It doesn’t have a mana cost and can cancel teleports due to the ministun on the skill.

The cooldown is short at 8 seconds, however to land the skill, you need to be close to your opponent.

Ah yes, good old permanent blademail. Centaur returns damage he receives from autoclickers based on a base value+percentage of strength. The skill is passive so its very good.

The damage is applied when the attack starts, not when the attack hits(much like with Viper ‘s Corrosive Skin .

Ah yes, a very good ultimate. The warchief bursts out in speed, charging towards enemies, while stunning and damaging them too. The damage is a wee low, 100/150/200 +2x your STR. Each enemy can get affected only once by the ability. A great initiation tool for likes of initiators( Enigma , Tidehunter and even Magnataur)

Item Build

The item build on this sucker is pretty straight forward:You need to be beefy and soak up damage for the team. Even if you die, you know that your carry did his job by you doing yours.

That is why we will empathise on a bulky build using Vanguard and Hood of Defiance (optionally getting a Pipe of Insight )

Quickly after those are done, get the Blink Dagger, that will help you with ganking issues.

Later in the game, you chose from a variety of items like: Assault Cuirass , Radiance , Heart of Tarrasque , Shiva’s Guard , Heaven’s Halberd. Although not many people would agree getting Heaven’s Halberd ,(people need to attack you for you to function well),it still has a great use if you are not that beefy as expected. Blademail can also be a good option if you like being alone amids 5 of the enemies, baiting out for 5 seconds afterwards calling your team.

My boots of preference would be Phase Boots, it gives a burst of movement speed for positioning and some extra right click damage.

Eye of Skadi is a good pick on every hero, and makes no exception on Centaur Warchief, for keeping enemies close up and personal.

Ganking

Centaur Warchief has some problems ganking alone before the dagger is purchased, thats why early game you should gank with a buddy. Post dagger this flaw is surpressed and can stun reliably.

In ganks you should start off with the stun, then whack the opponent while it stunned. After the stun is over, use Double Edge .

Friends and Foes

Friends: Vengeful Spirit , Crystal Maiden , Earthshaker , Warlock , Sven , Naga Siren , Lion, basicly anyone who can help him setup his stun.

Special mention:Tuskarr:Let the Ganking galore begin!
This guy gives you everything you need:Positioning, holding up the enemies close and a good way of initiating. You just roll in with Snowball, using Ice Shards, stun with Hoof Stomp then bodyblocking the enemy ins > Double Edge only if necesary.

Enemies: Terrorblade, Necrolyte, Zeus , Enigma , Huskar , Slardar , Templar Assassin, basicly people that have percentage based spells and armor reducing.

Special mention: Lifestealer :Your. Worst. Nightmare.
I cannot stress enough on how this guy will wreck your game. As you get beefier, he will just deal more damage. Do not dare to pick Centaur against this bad boy or I will personally deliver a 4-muscle-extending *****slap towards your face.

    DOTA 2 is Valve’s updated version of the classic WarCraft 3 custom map Defense of the Ancients, known colloquially as DotA. Though the game is currently in development and still carries the beta label, DOTA 2 has become an addiction for some for nearly a year, including myself.

    The original DotA mod is credited with launching the multiplayer online battle arena genre (MOBA), spawning multiple titles, including League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, Bloodline Champions, Awesomenauts, and even the shooter Super Monday Night Combat. After a legal battle over the DOTA name, Blizzard and Valve have settled. Blizzard’s own MOBA title – now named Blizzard All-Stars – remains in development and has been playable at a number of events.

    Although League of Legends was created by two of the original curators of the Defense of the Ancients mod, it was a man known “IceFrog” that helped bring DotA into the height of its popularity as a mod. Now working at Valve, Abdul “Icefrog” Ismail and a team of developers have been tasked with injecting the classic mod into the malleable Source Engine with hopes to deliver a new experience with fresh artwork, effects, and features not originally possible within WarCraft 3.

    The highly competitive game gets swarms of new beta users on a regular basis and its pending official launch will pile more into Valve’s latest game. For those new users to Valve’s free-to-play MOBA experience, we offer this breakdown of what the game is about and what strategies you should employ to be successful.

    DOTA 2 is a five-versus-five team game in which each player controls a single hero unit that has its own unique set of spells and play style. The game is played on a three-laned map with a series of towers lining each lane, leading to each “Ancient” on either side of the map. To win in DOTA 2, players must destroy the opposing team’s “Ancient.” To get the basics down, there are a glossary of terms used by MOBA players.

    The most common “laning” setup is for two heroes to attack the top and bottom lanes, while one hero scours the middle. There are numerous variants and each team has one viable “jungle,” an area with neutral creeps that can be killed for gold and experience that respawn every minute, to mix up the lane assignments.

    Team creeps from each base will push out from the trio of lanes every 30 seconds and meet in the middle. Without player interaction, these creeps will just cancel each other out, but when players help to kill the enemy creeps, the lane will “push” toward the opposing team’s tower. Each creep killed will result in some experience for nearby heroes and the person scoring the “last hit” will get a bit of gold, which can be used on items.

    This “laning” phase can last 10-15 minutes as players fight for last hits, experience levels, and potentially some early tower kills, which grant a large amount of gold to the entire attacking team. After laning, the game tends to move into a roaming/pushing phase where teams will rotate around the map to try and kill towers. In the late game, the action focuses around 5 versus 5 team fights with the surviving team gaining a large advantage to push toward the Ancient while the losing team waits to respawn.

    DotA 2 – Who’s Hot and Who’s Not for Update 7.21?

    With Update 7.21 for Steam’s Defense of the Ancients (DotA 2 for short) in full swing, let’s have a look at which heroes are hot and which heroes are on the Not list for one of today’s hottest internet games.

    And why are we talking about this? Can’t we all just continue using the heroes that we love playing? I mean, DotA2 is just one of many internet games and winning isn’t everything right?

    Yeah right. Whatever you say, pal.

    In DotA 2, Strategy is Everything

    In the world of DotA 2, a strategy is everything to winning games. All it takes is to learn about the meta and analyze game replays. Those are what you need to unlock the gates of victory for one of the most challenging internet games in the world.

    Professional DotA players recently conluded the Chongging Majors just a few months ago. Did you notice the captain of each team is always seen holding a big notebook before starting the game or match?

    These notebooks are filled with tactics taken against heroes that are strong in the current patch. These tactics come from experience playing internet games of DotA 2.

    This is how serious this game can be. Dota 2 is more than just any of those internet games that you play.

    DotA is not like Any Other Internet Games

    Unless you have no idea why checking the current meta is important, you’ll still understand its importance when you suddenly notice your favorite hero losing you many ranked games in the next few days or weeks. The world of DotA 2 is always changing and so are the skills and talents of each hero. This is why professional DotA players analyze game replays to build tactics against their opponents.

    Who’s Hot and Who’s Not for 7.21?

    And since we’ve taken a lot of time already talking about the importance of learning the current meta, it’s time we talk about which of DotA 2’s heroes are hot and which unlucky ones are not:

    The Hot Ones

    Ursa – The big fuzzy bear has always been a hot hero because of his high damage and his ability to completely destroy the monster Roshan within a few minutes into the game. His only problem in the past meta is his slow speed. This meta, however, that problem has been rectified. Ursa now has +15 movement speed, so if you’re not too careful or are just extremely foolish, then Fuzzy Wozzy will definitely tear you apart once he gets his first Boots of Speed within the first 5 minutes.

    Lifestealer – Probably the dark horse of every meta, Lifestealer is an unpredictable but powerful carry. His speed and armor got nerfed a few updates earlier. That may change soon though because just like Ursa, Lifestealer also has +15 movement speed along with a nice +2 to base armor. A carry that is harder to kill, is faster and can regenerate life because of his skills. Just wonderful.

    Rubick – The recipient of last year’s the International arcana, Rubick is also one of the winningest support heroes right now. And it’s all thanks to his level 15 talent. His Fade Bolt now reduces 60 damage instead of just 45. He was also picked 58 times during the last Majors and has a winning rate of 59%.

    The Not

    Tusk – Okay, I hate this hero. You’re just quietly last hitting the mid creeps when suddenly, a snowball comes rushing in at you. You always wind up dead after a full man gank. So when Valve announced Update 7.21, I literally jumped for joy. Tusk got a major nerf and that means less chances of the hero winning games. Good riddance.

    Juggernaut – Despite getting 4 nerfs at the same time, Juggernaut still remains as one of the most picked carries in DotA 2 pub games. No one is exactly sure why he remains popular, but if I were to guess, it’s because his skills are simple enough to master.

    Recipes

    Recipes were used in the Crafting feature that allowed players to create new cosmetic items by combining other cosmetic items. Recipes were consumable tools that indicated the items needed to craft the new item.

    On May 1st, 2015, all crafting recipes expired and were removed from player armories. The crafting feature has since been removed.

    Acquiring Recipes [ edit ]

    Recipes can be obtained by:

    • Chance from opening the Ancient Scroll Case and Treasure of Heroic Bounty.
    • Chance as a drop after playing matches.

    To craft, right click on the Recipe in the Armory menu. The materials needed are outlined in the Recipe’s tooltip. Fill in the slots with the requested items and you are ready to craft.

    Limitations [ edit ]

    Most items are usable in crafting, provided they have the required attributes (e. g. Uncommon rarity for Augment Uncommon recipes). Some items, however, are unusable in crafting – this is explicitly marked when it is the case.

    It is possible to use untradable items to craft an item, however using any in the recipe will mark the result as untradeable, regardless of the tradeability of other items used in the recipe.

    Binding [ edit ]

    Partially completed Recipes can be saved by binding the items to the recipe. Once bound, the items are considered destroyed and cannot be recovered. Recipes with bound items could be traded or sold on the market, and will only require the remaining items to complete.

    Jungling in Dota is a difficult job, but when done properly, can be the difference between winning a game and losing one.

    While a dedicated jungler is not required in many games, picking a jungler provides a number of benefits, including securing a large amount of farm and the ability to gank lanes to assist a struggling teammate.

    In this guide, we’ll go over which heroes make for strong junglers, how to effectively farm neutral creeps, and what to do to counter the opponents’ jungle game.

    Jungler Heroes

    Junglers excel at efficiently farming neutral creeps at the beginning of the game. As a game progresses, other heroes become more than capable of taking down neutral creeps on their own, but the jungler is uniquely suited to clearing out neutral camps without much difficulty.

    Broadly, junglers come in two varieties. They can either sustain themselves through the damage done by neutral creeps, or they can summon minions or convert neutral creeps to take damage in their stead. No matter what kind of jungler you pick, it is important to pick up items that increase health and mana regeneration, as they need to be able to stay in the fight for as long as possible without going back to base to ensure they farm effectively.

    Junglers with a focus on survivability typically have one or more abilities that allow them to either heal through lifesteal, or are capable of dealing high amounts of damage in a short period of time. Ursa makes for a prime example with his Fury Swipes, which increase the amount of damage dealt with each consecutive attack. Lifestealer is another solid choice, as he can heal himself with Feast to remain in the jungle for far longer than other heroes.

    Summoner heroes, on the other hand, excel at jungling because they don’t have to tank creeps’ damage in order to clear out camps. Enigma and Nature’s Prophet are great for their ability to summon more units, while Enchantress and Chen can convert the creeps to their side.

    Compared to other junglers, summoners can take medium and large camps earlier. In general, these heroes should prioritize mana regeneration first so that they can remain in the jungle longer and sustain their high cost abilities.

    Creep Stacking

    Creep Stacking is essential to proper jungling. In short, creep stacking involves pulling away the creeps from a camp shortly before their respawn timer activates. If the creeps are outside of the camp’s spawn box, additional creeps will spawn, which you can subsequently kill. The more stacks on a camp, the more farm you get.

    The recent 7.00 update changed the spawn timers for neutral camps, drastically changing how jungling works. Whereas the spawn time for camps used to be 0:30/1/2/3/4/etc., it is now 0:30/1/3/5/7/etc. The two minute time between spawns now means that speed is not as important as it once was. You now have enough time to clear out more camps and possibly execute a gank in between respawns.

    To stack a camp, you must first either attack a neutral creep or walk close to their position, causing the creeps to chase after you for a short period of time. While the size of each camps spawn box varies, it is generally possible to pull the creeps at the 53 or 54 second mark to safely stack a camp.

    While creep stacking is easy to pick up, there are other methods that can allow for even more efficient farming. A more advanced technique is creep pulling, which involves pulling a neutral camp into the path of incoming lane creeps. This is much harder to pull off, requiring careful timing, and is not recommended for beginners. Once it is mastered, however, you can use the lane creeps to take down harder neutral camps easily and without needing to worry about your survivability.

    Counter-Jungling

    While having a jungler on your team is important to secure farm, it’s just as essential to know how to properly shut one down and prevent the enemy from doing the same.

    As mentioned earlier, neutral creeps will not spawn in a camp if there is another unit inside of it. This includes wards, which are invisible to the enemy team unless they are using a Gem of True Sight or are placing Sentry Wards to counter-ward their jungle. Placing a ward inside a neutral camp in the enemy jungle will lower their overall efficiency, though it is up to you whether you use Sentry Wards or Observer Wards for the job.

    Observer Wards are great at providing sight range, but the limited amount your team has on hand combined with the fact that the most common spots to place them are often the most frequently de-warded means that they’re often best used in other locations. That said, placing Observer Wards in the enemy jungle is a reliable way to both prevent additional creeps from spawning as well as potentially allowing you to see where the enemy jungler is, which could be used to set up a gank.

    On the other hand, Sentry Wards do not provide much vision, with their only other use being to de-ward enemy wards and detect invisible opponents. These are much more difficult to spot, and can be used to effectively shut down a neutral camp without much difficulty.

    Dota 2 Workshop – Wards

    WARD CONCEPT CONSIDERATIONS

    • Observer and sentry wards need an ‘eyeball’ element that is very prominent and can be seen clearly from above in game view.
    • For gameplay clarity, the eyeballs should have strong yellowish or bluish coloring.
    • If the ward has a face or prominent features, make sure these can be clearly seen from above in game view.
    • Our artists review wards by how they look in game, so please put as much effort into the in-game view as you do for their appearance in the loadout.

    WARD MODEL REQUIREMENTS

    • Wards share the same model for the sentry and observer versions.
    • There is a limit of 60 bones for each model.
    • Both models can have two LOD (level of detail) meshes
    • LoD0 is higher resolution. It is optional, is displayed in the portrait, loadout and closeup showcase views and is limited to 2000 triangles.
    • LoD1 is lower resolution. It is required, is used in-game and is limited to 1500 triangles.
    • Please note that our budgets refer to triangles, not polygons.
    • It is helpful if you tesselate your model into triangles before submission to confirm that the final mesh is what you intend. Otherwise our tools will triangulate the mesh but may have different results from what you’ll see using your software.
    • Our game is only able to support the skinning of 4 vertices per joint. Skinning to additional vertices will be removed or will cause a failure when community items go through our workshop compiler.
    • Please make sure the bind pose for your ward model is oriented upright and facing forward. This orientation determines the placement of the hitboxes.

    • We no longer accept. smd files for workshop models. Please provide. dmx or. fbx files.

    WARD MATERIALS

    • Wards require two separate skin textures, one for the observer ward which has prominent areas of yellow coloring, and another for the sentry ward, which has prominent areas of blue coloring.
    • The final material size for each texture is 256×256

    WARD ANIMATION REQUIREMENTS

    • Wards need spawn, idle, and death animations.
    • They have an option for portrait and rare animations.
    • A run animation is not needed for wards since they are rooted in one place.
    • It may help to orient the animation of the eye, head, or primary features to face slightly upwards so that they read better from above in game view.
    • If you have separate portrait animations, these can be adjusted to have the head at a normal angle.

    HITBOXES

    • Hitboxes creation by community artists is not currently supported for the Source 2 Dota Workshop. Hitboxes are created by Valve artists once a ward is accepted for the game.
    • Temporary generic hitboxes are created by the workshop tool when you test your ward in demo mode so that it can be selectable. These are not the final hitboxes.

    ATTACHMENT POINTS

    • Hit location attachments are needed for wards.
    • The hit location specifies where attack projectiles will travel to.
    • In the workshop submission tool you will need to enter the name of the bone that the attach_hitloc will bind to and, if necessary, adjust the attach position to be near the eye or above the center of the ward so that projectiles will stay well above the ground.
    • Detailed instructions about designating and editing attaches in with workshop tool can be found on the Submitting Items page.

    WARD PORTRAIT

    • The portrait options in the submission tool start with the same framing, lighting, and background as the default ward but you can customize these settings.
    • If you have prepared a separate portrait animation with a different eye/head orientation, be sure to choose this animation from the drop-down list before framing your portrait.

    SUBMITTING WARDS

    • Refer to the Submitting Items page for important general information about testing and submitting items.
    • It is no longer necessary to maintain our file structure when preparing your item files. The workshop tool will place your files where they need to go.
