Dota 2 disconnects my whole internet
When I play Dota 2 I can be in a match for 2 min or it can be 30 min, but it’s random. My whole internet goes out I have to unplug the modem and plug it back in just to get it to work again. It’s only Dota 2 that does it I have played LOL, H1Z1, CS:GO and it doesn’t happen.
I have tried reinstalling Dota 2 and steam and it doesn’t help or work. I have also put it on low network mode or whatever it’s called in the options of Dota 2 still didn’t help. If anyone knows of a fix please help me I just want to play without getting kicked and getting abandonments.
You seem to have to have the same issue as: http://dev. dota2.com/showthread. php? t=280906
It could be caused by your provider not being able to handle UDP packets well and thus dropping the connection. I don’t know much/anything about networking it’s just a speculation since the only game you have a problem with is dota 2 and that seems to be the only game using UDP packets in the mentioned list. All the others use TCP.
Just to anyone that might have this problem I didn’t figure out what was wrong, but figured out a work around. I ended up using a VPN and it no longer disconnects or lags during the match. Finally I can play the game in peace (sort of) 😛
Well playing on VPN has 2 big disadvantages:
1) You may be banned by VAC
2) Internet speed can be way low for a normal game
Considering those two reasons, I would advise you to find another way to solve this. Check this answer with UDP packages not being processed, maybe that will help.
If you’re using a VPN with the same IP from your country I’d think it’s highly unlikely to get banned. It’s also advisable to connect to the VPN before connecting to steam so irregularities don’t happen. People have been using VPNs to connect to games for a long time and I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say they got banned for it. But it’s still better to change your ISP or contact them and maybe they can fix this easily. Better safe than sorry.
I live in the middle of no where and the ISP I have now is the only one I can have out here, so changing isn’t an option. Also, the VPN I use I only lose 2 ping which isn’t even bad. My download and upload still max out. So, I contacted my ISP and they said that they couldn’t tell what was going on and that they had seen the UDP connection, but when the disconnect happened all they could see is that the packets had stopped. Which honestly I already knew that seeing that means it disconnects. He took the name of the game and said he was going to do some research. I can only hope they figure out what is wrong.
