DotA 2 Punishment System (Knowledge Base)
My name is MadSpartan, and I sincerely hope that this thread will clarify all about the Punishment/LPP system. Lots of research all over the place was done to make sure this thread contains everything you might need to know.
First of all, what is LPP?
LPP stands for Low Priority Pool. Low Priority Pool is a player pool where you get matched with players who have recently abandoned or have been reported in games. So? Where is the punishment? Well, except for playing with people you do not necessarily like, you also play with people from all brackets (perhaps playing with Very High Bracket abandoners is not that good for you, who might be down in the High or Normal Brackets), and you do not gain battle points, and neither are you in the item pool, meaning that you will not receive any items.
How do you get into this pool?
This pool is intended for players who abandon on a regular basis and who get reported for flaming, etc. So, if you abandon a game you get into there (safe-to-abandon games are where someone has already abandoned, see below). Alternatively, you can get punished if there is 5 reports placed on you in a week’s time (every week the report count resets). Recently, a fix was implemented, and now you get LPP after you abandon 3 times at first, probably implemented to allow room for mistake and internet problems if such occur.
When does a game become safe to abandon?
When someone leaves and does not return/reconnect for 5 mins, it is said for him as an abandon. This game is now safe to leave, however, your stats will be recorded, unless the person abandons before a certain mark (around 5 mins, but I am not sure about this, will research more). When the person leaves before that timestamp, it is an early abandon, and the match does not count towards stats.
How does this affect me in the long run?
Despite some misconception, after your punishment time ends, you still have a lot of problems with it. First of all, you get an abandon in your stats, but if you are not worried about this, then you should be worried about something else: each time, your time in this pool will increase. After 10 abandons/reports, you will have 3 days for example, then at 20 abandons/reports, you will have a 6 days punishment length. *This is an example just to show that it is going to increase.
How does this affect others in my party?
If you are hosting, or are being part of a party/stack, then, despite such common misconception, your party is not influenced by your state. If you are punished, they are not. Party members will still receive Battle Points and have a chance to earn items. Also, you will play with the people your party members are matched with (Normal, High, Very High, but not necessarily LPP people). *Screenshots will be provided once I get access to DotA.
Can the system be avoided?
This is the part where my topic fails to provide information. I am not sure whether this can be avoided, but even if I knew the way, for the sake of justice, I would not put this here. Smurf accounts of course work, and I am pretty sure you have heard of them enough, so they should not be mentioned in this post. If you are playing in a party, or just with good people, you can ask them to pause if you are planning to reconnect, and you are unsure whether it will take 5 mins or longer. Pausing prevents time from going.
How does it work when you report someone?
DotA has a small Report System. There is 4 criteria:
- Text Abuse
- Voice Abuse
- Intentional Feed
- Intentional Ability Abuse
Text Abuse is when the person is abusive and offensive when he types in chat. Voice Abuse is the same, but in response to the voice chat feature. Intentional Feed is when you give free money to the enemy team by dying intentionally. Intentional Ability Abuse is when you abuse abilities and cast them into the air.

The Sister Earth [ edit ]
